First of all, i love you for asking this the way you did. Big kudos for that.
I can only give you a non-christian answer, for the simple reason that i'm not a christian.
I believe anybody can be anything he or she wants, as long as it doesn't hurt others. The biggest problem with homosexuality these days is understanding. Not only understanding from christians, but from all parts of society. It's too far from peoples 'normal behaviour' to understand it. And that's a problem that we can see in the whole society. Trying to understand other human beings seems to be a difficult task.
A society can be measured by its values. Those values can be measures by how that same society treats minorities. If the basic premesis of a society is follow the will of the majority, then that society is not a very high valued society.
The key is always that a society is as strong as its weakest link. In this case that would be the smallest minority. A high-valued society would always accept anything other than "the normal standard", and embrase, support, help it full-heartedly.
In the eyes of many a christian society is a high-valued society. When i see how christianity treats different minorities, i highly doubt if a christian society is as high-valued as assumed.
The christian society would gain much respect in the eyes of many, if they started truly to live by Jesus' teachings. Jesus would full-heartedly embrase any minority, probably also offer teachings on how to accept and welcome those minorities.
It saddens me, as a non-believer, how many times in my life i have to remind people of Jesus' teachings.

I believe that the majority of Christians would answer along the lines of: once you are saved, you shouldn't want to sin any more. And this is true. And according to that, homosexuals are still sinning by persisting in their lifestyle. I don't know where I stand on homosexuality, so I can't really answer this completely, but I do know that if you consider anything a sin, it shouldn't be purposefully done and then justified under the umbrella excuse of "we're all sinners anyways."
To address your comment about divorce: this is true. The only real difference there is that divorce is a one-time act whereas homosexuality is a continuing state. You can't be a one-time homosexual, just like you can't divorce day after day after day. (Theoretically, you really can, but realistically, not at all...) That being said, once you admit to having sinned and are forgiven for it, it's essentially in the past. So those who have divorced can confess and then walk away from their sin. It doesn't quite work like that with homosexuality because, as I mentioned, it's not quite a one-time deal that can be done and then over with.

well... unfortunately, like manny other things there is a grey area in this topic.
to put everything as simple as possible, it's something like this:
A person can withing the restrictions of phisical ability commit most actions that come to mind. ex. we're hungry, we eat. we want to fly we invent airplanes. we wish to feel loved we search for a soul mate, or religion or whatever.
Now amongst human beings there is a generally unwritten code that has been in place since our begginings. And that is that not everything we CAN do we SHOULD do or MAY do. it's part of the maturing process of all people. when we're young we make poor decisions as we get older we learn (hopefully) that those actions we wan't to make are not always those we would be wise to take.
My ability to kill doesn't make me a killer. My ability to steal doesn't make me a theif. All of these things are limited by our moral descresion.
When those preset, some would say "God given" moral boundaries are crossed we tipically are labeled as the product of our transgressions. I.E. some who does steal is a theif, someone who does cheat on a lover is an adulterer. Then with the regions of action outside those boundaries labeled as sin we all find that we are sinners.
The basic consept of Grace in Christianity is that we are relieved of the consequences of our sins, not the exhistance of them. We decline sin because it sepperates us from God and his will, not because we are more morally evolved beings once we practice Christianity. Therefor a Christian is still a sinner and an Athiest is one as well. The only difference is that the Christian feels that he/she has been called by God to fallow a path of moral decernment and spiritual growth.
A homosexual is a human being just the same as a heterosexual, and it was humanity, not sexual orrientations that Christ died for.
To wrap this up, the point is this: when we commit sin, we are sepperated from God, the point of Christianity is salvation and a relationship with God. We can't accept commiting any sin, we should be against it. We shouldn't do it. We can, but we may not.
And then there's still Grace.
sorry this was so long you guys. lol... I guess I had a lot to say.

To say Christian's CAN sin is true. This is can in the sense of capability, not in right and wrong. Just because they can and do sin doesn't make their sins "okay." A Christian should repent of their sins and then, by God's grace, forsake them. The whole meaning of Christian is "like-Christ" or "Christ-follower." The Bible says Jesus "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. " (Hebrews 4:16) So to choose a lifestyle of sin (in direct opposition to God's requirements) could not possibly be "like Christ" or Christian, because He did not sin and He followed God's requirements to show us that it was possible.

This isn't going to come out the way you think it will. No, not the discussion - my statement.
Do you know the story of the Centurion? Jesus was accosted by a Centurion, who said his servant was ill. To make a long story short. Matthew use the Greek word "pais" or boy - and Luke used "doulos" or slave. Why would a Roman pagan seek out Jewish healer? Because the Centurion had a very close relationship with the servant, namely that of body slave. A body slave was basically a homosexual servant who bathed and did sexual service to a Roman. Jesus would have known this- and he didn't care. The Centurion said that he commanded people and they did what he said without question, that he did not deserve to have Jesus even come under his roof, but that if Jesus just spoke it, the servant would be healed. Jesus said he had not seen such faith in Israel, and for the Centurion to "go , for your servant is healed." (Matthew 8:8-10,13)
In another case, Jesus obviously tells his followers to find the way to the Last Supper by following an effeminate man to the place. How can this be? A man did not carry water then - yet Jesus says to follow a water carrying man, who would have been considered effeminate or a eunuch. A bit like saying "follow the cross-dressing guy in heels" -
So as you can see, Jesus spent no time condemning people for their sexuality, but healed them instead. Those who use Jesus to attack homosexuals would be well advised to consider this, though I would expect them to already have stopped reading this before this sentence. And who was it that said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.."

When a person DESIRES to become a 'true Christian' and REALIZES that he or she has SINNED, then it behooves upon that individual to [CONFESS and] REPENT, ASK FOR FORGIVENESS from God, and VOW [or PROMISE] TO SIN NO MORE...
One becomes a Christian through the sacred sacrament of Baptism and then one strives to follow The Law from that point on...
Having said all that, there is NO REASON WHY a homosexual, or a thief, or a murderer, or a cheater, or a liar, or a worshipper of other gods and idols, etc. or ANYONE ELSE COULDN'T BECOME a 'true Christian'. Get it??
Peace be with you!

Our Lord is no respecter of persons.
Mankind places certain sins on different levels.....in God's eyes sin is sin, a liar is in the save shelf with the sin society calls disgraceful.
The way was made for all mankind to be free from the slavery of bondage,.....In a prison without the bars.
Gut wrenching relentance is the answer. God knows who's truly Godly sorry and God in his grace and mercy will deliver.

Do You think it's using the word "Homosexual" that's what's making some people confused? A Homosexual must become a Totally Straight Heterosexual in order to become a Christian. They must become totally committed to God and turn from the lifestyle of Homosexuality. A homosexual cannot be a christian until they repent!

You are right that there is no sin greater than any other sin. However, God wants us to repent of our sins. Repent meaning that we turn away from the sin. If I were a murderer that became a christian I wouldn't go out murdering people because there is a chemical imbalence. No! I would turn away from killing people as hard as it would be. If you think homosexually is preset in your dna, then refrain from sex! No one says you have to have sex...wouldn't that be prematrial fornication? Think about it. So repent and turn away like God asks of you.

There is a difference between sinning becasue you had a flair up in the old nature and willingly choosing a llifestyle of habitual sin and a life style God says is an abomination. We become chrisitans to be delivered from homosexuality and the flesh!

Homosexuials can be Christian.
I agree with you.
Jesus died for all of our sins.
But Christians struggle with sin and should have the desire to change. But thats between you and God, nobody has the right to judge you on that.
I hate it when people say that gays are worse, because they are not. They are humans. They are people. They are God's wonderful creations.
Many Christians make homosexuiality a 'worse' sin because they are uncomfortable with the topic.
