Let us say that the U.S is a Corporation. The largest in the world.
We the citizens are employees, with profit sharing and stock options. We put into our company in hopes of one day pulling something out for our retirement. This term would and is called a dividend. A share of the growth which you helped happen. This is the way any Corporation should work. But the U.S runs itself like Enron and World Com. Where are the dividends? Where is the profit sharing? Where is the return for all the hard work and contributions, financial and other, from it's employees (citizens)??? If I were president I would give the dividends back to the people that made and continue to make this country happen.
I hope this answer just changed a life. Peace.

1. War; a change of strategy is in order; more carpet bombing; 500lb house knockers and snipers placed in high profile areas to take out those planting road side bombs.
2. Immigration; a closed border, a work permit program for those here, but if you are here illegally sorry - you don't get to break our laws and become a citizen. Not going to happen.
3. Taxes a flat tax of "xx.xx" percent over $20,000 of earnings with only a mortgage and retirement deduction against the income - simple 8.5 x 11 tax form for everyone. Set the percentage to cover the annual budget and change it annually to cover the bills - guess what - congress will have a harder time spending more.
4. Political reform; require mandatory 48 hour publishing (online) of all contributions and terminate all limits on spending, all limits on contributions and make our country free again.
5...Education I haven't figured out yet; but its not the teachers union answer I'm pretty sure.
6. health care - real simple - flood the market with health care professionals. Spend our limited resources on educating and training so many people for the health care industry that competition will bring the costs down.

Good question...also very open-ended. I think my ansser would depend on what I was "in charge" of. If I was President of the US, there would be a number of things I would do in my first 100 days of office, not the least of which would be bringing our men and women home from Iraq. I would also tell Congress to throw out the current tax laws and come up with something that is a lot more equitable for EVERYONE. I would also make George W pay back every cent of his salary for the past eight years he's been in the White House (because he's done such a bad job--and wasn't even elected to office in a legitimate sense to begin with!). Oh the changes I'd make in this country if I was "in charge!!!"

If I were President of the United States, I would do everything possible to ensure the safety of this great nation. Secondly, I would seriously review NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement). NAFTA has cost many Americans their jobs. On the issue of illegal immigrants, I would use every legal means to prohibit illegal immigrants from entering into the USA, and would have all records of employers reviewed to find illegal immigrants. There is no way, in this short space, of being able to relate everything I would do as President. However, since I am planning to run for City Council in my town, I can help my fellow Council members to make this a better place for all citizens.

I would remove the Republican and Democratic parties from existence, and they would never be allowed to form again. If you want to run for president just convince a majority and you're in. Existing Supreme Court Judges will be given their walking papers and all remaining cabinet and Administration members will be given the boot as well as members of the House & Senate. It will become a major felony ( similar to murder) for anyone employed by or temporary working for the government to lie, cheat, steal, plot against, conspire to commit fraud against the United States. The Patriot act will be withdrawn and any freedoms removed from Americans will be installed and supported by the Constitution. We will withdraw all combat troops from the Middleast all airbases under construction shall become the property of the Iraq and Afghanistan people. Camp Anaconda will be included in said property as well as all military equipment (Excluding all weapons or materials re;) including trucks , tractors, Humvee, and all improvement to date. An apology would go out to all people in the middle east and especially Islamic followers.

Well, I'll speak to one thing: the war. I'd stop worrying about what people are saying at home and I'd execute the war the way it needs to be done. I believe if that had been done, it would be over already, long ago, in fact. Then I'd pay attention to the opposition.

Simple....
I would order ALL of our military back into the US, I would expell all illegal immigrants, I would declare a period of isolationism, and build up our country. Fix our social problems, and not send one cent out of the country as long as ONE American goes to bed hungry.
I would force the international community to realize just how important we are, and how much they really need us...... One US President did just that.....was the beginning of the best economic period in US history
