I'm from Hawaii and I'd like to know what people think about it that aren't from Hawaii.

Most of hotels are located within walking distant from the beach. Oahu is not like some of the other islands where everything is close by 9:00 am.

The Kodak hula show, the Arizona Memorial, the friendliness of the people of Hawaii, the Blue Hawaiians at a bar while over looking the beach. Going back and visiting and seeing charges, and not seeing any changes.

I went to Oahu in 1996 for 4 days as part of our honeymoon.

It was simply beautiful.

Things that I remember the most are:

. The bus driver from the airport to the hotel - he was hawaiian and very welcoming and kind, but most of all, he was funny!
. Lying on Waikiki beach, fully jetlagged, watching the waves and soaking in the sun.
. A young lady singing "Hang Loose" on the bus to Germaines Luau. Ten years on, I still remember most of that song.
. The magnificent sunset and sunrises
. Falling asleep at Germaines Luau! Darn jet lag!

There was only one down side - we found it cost alot more than we could afford, but if you have a package deal, then it is truely worth the expense!

Put simply, I loved the place, but it was the people made it memorable for me.

It's the most amazing place. I think my favourite thing is the International Marketplace. I'm Canadian and I don't get a lot of opportunity to visit markets like that in the winter! Also, there is the most amazing Mexican Restaurant in Hale'iwa. For anyone visiting, the Byodo-in Temple is a wonderful place, Hanauma Bay has snorkelling second to none, and the people are absolutely wonderful, warm, and welcoming. You are very lucky to live in such a magical place.

I lived on Oahu for 3 years. I found it a beautiful place to live. Great people and surrounded by beauty. I miss it!
