we brought a kitten home a few weeks ago and she had pretty substantial "eye boogers". along with some redness around her right eye, accompanied with sneezing and lots of discharge from her nose. she had gotten alot better, her "eye boogies" went away, and she seemed to be betting over it. only a sneeze here and there. but now the redness is back in her right eye, the extreme discharge from her nose and a good sneezing fit every five minutes have returned. the one thing that stumps me is that she seems totally fine in her behavior, she's playful, lovable and eats just fine.we cannot afford a vet visit. any ideas on something we can do at home or some OVER THE COUNTER remedies?? any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Your kittie was dealing with an upper respiratory infection, sounds like the worst is over except for the sneezing usually anything from 5 to 15,
Problem is that she is not completely over it the sneezing may go on for weeks even longer.
There is a possibility of having a recurrence of all the symptoms you had mentioned, since she is not totally over the infection.
She needs an antibiotic, Clavamox would probably your vets drug of choice.
As far a home remedies, there is no silver bullet, call your vet and see if he would dispense any melds without having to see the cat. I have been in this type of situation many times over the years and sounds like a classic case of URI.
If you can't get any antibiotics best leave well enough alone, If you start medicating your cat with meds made for humans you may wind up doing some serious damage to your cat.
Do not mistake the triple antibiotic ointment that you pick up at the grocery store, it is for external use only and says right on the tube ,DO NOT USE: in the eyes.
The tri opth antibiotic requires a vets prescription.

You should take your kitten to the vet. upper respiratory infection is contagious to other cats too. The eye infection can be shared from the kitten to you or your kids if hands are not washed after handling the kitten. Your pet needs antibiotics and an triple antibiotic ointment for the eyes. you might find these items at your local feed store that sales equine and Bovine products.

Take it to the vet as it may need some antibiotics. I would not recommend anything over the counter for cats. Tylenol is TOXIC to cats. The cat will behave normally, just the sneezing and eye boogers and all that goes with it. Your vet can help your kitty and the meds are usually pretty cheap in that area.

The best thing to do is go to a Vet. If you can't afford one, try going to the local animal welfare groups and see if they can help get your cat to a vet. Also, when your cat gets bigger, it will need to get fixed, and shots, and all of that. Your local animal group might be able to help with that too.

sounds like it could be feline herpes. you can give him 500 mg of l-lysine a day and 12.5mg of benadryl a day. wait about an hour between doses.
Though you should try getting your cat to the vet.
hope this helps.
