It seems so often people say, "Just have faith." What does this mean?

Faith is the substance of things hoped for. You must have faith for the vision of the things you wish to come to pass in your life and the lives of others. Faith also requires that you act in the vision you are having. Faith without works is nothing. After you receive your vision and pray it is already given to you. However these things will not fall in your lap tomorrow. You must get up off your knees from praying and walk into that blessing by your actions. Blessings are not received directly from the hand of God. You will receive your blessings through God's people in ways that will produce a testimony of you going through a test or trial in your life. In the end you will give God the glory for your answered prayer and thus spread the power of faith to others through your testimony.

At Hebrews 11:1, Faith is defined as the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. The entire chapter lists all of the men and women of faith in times past. It can only be gained by studying the Bible.

However at James 2:26 we are told that 'Faith without works is dead.' So we have to demonstrate that we have faith by the way we live our lives.

Although we cannot say what a day will bring forth for us individually, by faith we can meet any challenge. Faith makes us courageous and patient. It gives us the highest goals and a rewarding life. Faith has positive effects on our relationship with others and enables us to endure adversity.

Hebrews 11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Its being able to believe what you think to be true, even when there is no hard evidence to support it. And it doesnt necessarily mean religion or God, it can be faith in a spouse to be faithful, faith that your car will start, faith in anything you hope to be true makes it real even without the facts.

Hebrews 11:3Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Faith = obedience that comes from trust.

God reveals His character and His methods in His Word. You have the opportunity to trust Him and live your life according to that character and those methods. If you do this, you would be considered a man/woman of faith, according to the Bible.

Faith is believing without proof. It's being certain of something you have never seen yet.

A great example is when you say to a four-year old, 'Hey we're going for ice cream!' They don't get all skeptical and ask, 'When?' They immediately believe you, jump up and down and shout 'Yay! We're going for ice cream!. That's why Jesus said the greatest in the kingdom of heaven are like little children (Matthew 18).

Pray this prayer with faith to be saved and find real Joy:
Heavenly Father, I know I am a sinner. Forgive me for my sins. Today, I turn from them. I accept Jesus' sacrifice on the cross as payment for my sins. Jesus, come into my life as my Lord and Saviour. I want to follow You. I pray this in Jesus' name, amen.

Read the Book of John in the Bible (the one after Luke). Find a Bible-believing church and attend every weekend.

God Bless!

Good definitions above and I would add it's a gamble based on past experience but not a conscious, calculated gamble. It's the admission of helplessness too- if you're powerless to change something all that's left is faith, or wishful thinking, that it will change to your liking without your intervention.

To have faith in something means to believe that it is true in spite of your lack of evidence.

Example:

Jon the Baptist has faith in GOD's philosophy of peace, love, hard work, and determination despite the fact that so few others have faith in this philosophy, AND so many seem to be prospering because of the war, hate, brown nosing, back stabbing, jerk philosophy.
