I want my daughter to run a 5k with me (she is 8 years old). Is she to young? How should I prepare her for this? What would be a good way to get her started?

8 years old is too young for this, if you would like her to learn to start running, try getting her into a children's program, as was mentioned above. This way she can start at a level that is appropriate for her age. You've been training, I would guess, for awhile for the run, and are in condition, but she isn't.
Start her out slowly, and with children, it isn't good for a child to run with an adult, because the adult pushes the child beyond what they should at times. I would get her started with children, and give her several years before running her in anything serious. Just my opinion as a trainer.

5K is alot for a little girl her age who hasn't really run distance before. Instead, maybe try finding some children's track programs for her to get involved in, so that next year she can run the with you (though probably not a 5K), if she's ready and interested. Keep in mind that your interests might not be her interests, and it wouldn't be fair to force her into running. You wouldn't like it if she forced you into her interests, like Bratz dolls, Barbies, skating, etc.

I think she should be able to handle it. Theres a 5K thanksgiving race near my town that a lot of younger kids run in.

If she hasnt done any running you start slow with short distances and slow paces. Work her up to longer distances and she should be able to handle it.
