Many Christians ignore both the Old Testament and the New. More specifically, they ignore the parts of the Bible that may make them responsible for their own actions, and thus blame their ignorance on the Bible. All of you who call yourselves Christian, ought to also believe the words of the Old Testament.
The Old Testament is the Law of Moses and the history of the children of Israel. More importantly, it is the witness of the Holy One of Israel, the works of the Almighty God, the Prince of Peace. Jehovah is the God of the Old Testament. He came to dwell among his people in the flesh.and to organize his church, and teach his gospel. This is the New Testament, a witness of Jesus Christ in mortality. Few people listened to his words. His people rejected him, and crucified him.
All the prophets did teach about Jesus coming to redeem his people from sin and bondage. The prophets only wrote down what God had said unto them. The prophets may have been mortal men who may not have been perfect, but the words they wrote are the words of God. Those who choose to ignore the words of God wherever they may be, are also rejecting their God.
If you cannot accept the Bible as the word of God, you cannot be given any more to read.

We do not ignore the old testament at all. It is the basis for the new testament.
Without studying the old testament, how in the world would you ever be able to understand the new testament and its message?
For example, Jesus talks about some important stories in the old testament as part of his ministry. If you did not know the story, how would you ever understand the message being given.
When Jesus is talking back to one of the rabbi's in the temple, the rabbi trys to get him to go against one of the laws of the old testament. Jesus immediately stops and states that he is sorry, he did not know whom he was addressing. He did not come to change the law. He came to take us out from under it.
There is so much of the old testament that we need in order to understand the new.
If you are referring to some of the things that were done in the old testament and are not done in the new, you will find where it was changed. For example, in old testament times, a sacrifice was needed to atone for sins. Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice and now animal sacrifices were no longer needed.
Why the Jews no longer sacrifice is beyond my understanding, as they do not believe that Jesus is the perfect lamb. Some will say it is because they are no longer in possession of the ark of the covenent, but GOD destroyed that and the curtain that shielded it. And there were other times that they were not in possession of the ark of the covenent and they still made alters for sacrifices, so that one does confuse me, although I am glad that they are not doing it.
I do know that the new testament states that they will again start sacrificing animals in the end times. After they have rebuilt their temple on the ground that they now fight over.
Another thing that was changed is the meat that was declared unclean in the old testament was in Acts declared clean. Along with that, it also stated that all things were allowed, but not all things are for our good. A very important lesson for all of us there. But without the old testament, how would you know what was declared unclean?
THe entire body of the bible is important, so important that it is written that you either believe it all, or believe none of it. THat is pretty important stuff.

No that's not it. The God of The Bible is the God of both New and Old testaments, and the bible says that is the same today yesterday and forever, so the old testament when studied you see how our God dealt and still deals with man kind through many generations, so we must study and know what it says, and for the deeper students the Genealogies of where the people's tribes came from which family lines so we can follow Christ line and cain"s line. NOW HERE'S the differance when Jesus came he abolished some of they way they worshiped and atonted for there sin before Jesus came we had animal sacrafices to shed blood of animals to atone for sin but Christ came and abolished those ordanances but Jesus says not a jot or a tittle will be changed from the law! we need him to atone for our sins and if we accept Jesus work on the Cross than we do not need to sacrafice the aniamals. It say that was not pleased with that and wanted instead a "PRAISE OFFERING"! Thats why we sing and praise his name!!!!So yes the old testament is in perfect harmony with the new but some of the laws and ordanance have been changed! the answer Praise the Lord!!!!!!!

no. we use the new testament more because it talks about Jesus and about the end of time. The end of time isn't TOO far from know and the Majority of the people in the world aren't saved. We use the Old testament when we want or when God tells us to read the Old Testament. but the new Testament talks about things that are or are similar to things in the old testament but Yes the Old testament does back up the New testament

Regarding the Law, here is an excerpt from the Explanation portion of Luther's Small Catechism
What are the Ten Commandments?
The Ten Commandments are the Law of God.
Note: God gave them in this order but did not num ber them (Deut. 5:6-21; Ex. 20:1-17).
How did God give His Law?
When God created people, He wrote the Law on their hearts. Later he arranged the Law in Ten Commandments, wrote it on two tables of stone, and made it known through Moses.
Rom. 2:14-15 Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.
Bible narrative: God wrote His commandments directly for the Israelites (Ex. 19-20; 31:18). There are three kinds of laws in the Old Testament: the moral law, which tells all people their duty toward God and other people; the ceremonial law, which regulated the religious practices in the Old Testament; and the political law, which was the state law of the Israelites. Only the moral law was written into the human heart.
What is the summary of commandments 13 (First Table)?
Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matt. 22:37; see Deut. 6:5).
What is the summary of commandments 4-10 (Second Table)?
"And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matt. 22:39; see Lev. 19:18).
What is the summary of all the commandments?
Love is the summary of all the commandments.
Rom. 13:10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Whom does God mean when in the Ten Commandments He says, "You shall"?
He means me and all other human beings.
Matt. 5:19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Rom. 3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
Bible narrative: Jesus explained the meaning of these commandments for all people (Matthew 5).
The rest of ther OT is either historical, prophetic, or poetic (Psalms is an example). Christians regard the entire OT as important doctrine and the Word of God. Though we do not practice certain laws (Neither do the Jews anymore either since the destruction of the temple), these words can still have important meanings in our lives.

No, the old testament law that Moses gave to the Israelites was fulfilled by Jesus and no longer is applicable. The OT is not ignored at all, and contains many important prophesies, lessons, stories, and psalms.
However many Christians do not emphasize the old testament and ignore most of it -- a very poor decision

Who is we? There are no contradictions in the Bible. If you read it and not take it out of text, you would know that. The old Testament is full of prophecy that is fulfilled in the New Testament and is being fulfilled now. Just watch the news.

The old testament is the law and the new testament is the gospel. We are condemned by the old testament and saved by the new testament. Humans being imperfect cannot perfectly follow the laws of the old testament, so God sent Jesus as a sacrifice for us so that we may be forgiven

Well I think the word "ignore" is strong, but some parts just aren't as applicable. (Like the part where women are unclean during their periods and had to sent off to period huts). This is because we don't need to make sacrifices for sinning against the LAW, which is a lot of what the old testament is. Salvation, in the old testament, was through the law, but after Jesus came to earth we find our salvation through his death and resurrection.

No not exactly. The New Testament fulfills the Old, so it is richer, so to speak. But the whole OT foreshadows the New Testament, the Old Law prepares for the law of love, and there is much to learn in the OT. Don't ignore it.
