I know the obvious answer is to not return, however, there should be some type of penalty, some type of recourse for consumers. The type of doctor doesn't seem to make a difference, (this time it was a dermotologist Dr. Mesirow) they are all late!
Can we pay them in watches?

What made it worse was that during the exam the doctor kept heading for the door. 3 times I stopped him with questions. He actually stood right next to the door! The last time he had to step back into the exam room and close the door to answer me.

Sometimes a doctor may have an emergency that throws the day's schedule off.
Sometimes a partner may become sick and they are having to see his/her appointments too.

However more times than not, it would appear to be overbooking.

Some doctors have forgotten they work for us.
Some have forgotten our time is worth money too.
Some have forgotten they can be fired.

If you aren't happy with your doctor's office or the doctor, you have a choice. I had one that was never on schedule, so I switched. Twenty years later I still use him... do I have wait... sometimes, but not often.

Well..I think it depends on the situation. I work for a dentist, and there are certainly times when he is running late because someone with an emergency came in, or a procedure took longer than expected. In situations such as that, it's more understanding than if he's just late from lunch or something like that. At any rate, someone in the office should have made you aware of the situation. Before your next appt, call ahead and make sure the doctor is on time. Make the staff aware that you've had to wait a few other times, and find it very inconsiderate that no one made you aware before that you would need to wait. That will definately put them on their guard to look for you. Explain that your time is very valuable as well, and you would appreciate a call ahead of time if the doctor is running late. That's what we do in our office. That way, the patient can stay at work and come later or reschedule if need be. Good luck! I know it's frustrating...hope this helped some.

Doctors wouldn't be running late if:
Patients didn't show up late for their appointments,throwing the doctor's schedule off, and then demand to know how long they were going to have to wait.
Patients who scheduled an appointment for a cold didn't add their back pain, their rash, their ingrown toenail, their fatigue, their discharge, their boil, their lump, their allergies etc etc etc to the list of things they expected the doctor to take care of in the same visit, and then scream that they were being cheated when the doctor asks them to make another appointment to have the rest of their problems addressed.
Patients didn't show up without an appointment and expect to be "worked into the schedule", thus causing the doctor to run even father behind.
Then, there is the unavoidable situation of a patient who is having a heart attack, or needs to be on an IV for three hours, these things will throw the schedule off.
I agree it is important for the staff to let the patients know that the doc is behind, and give them the option of rescheduling or coming back later. Believe it, the doctors absolutely HATE to be behind!

Usually, it's the patients that make them late. Cure - get an appointment first thing in the morning or right after lunch. Or, get the last appointment of the day and an hour before, call to see how late the doctor is running. Doctors don't like running late any more than you like them to - they have families too, so when patients are late and then demand to be seen, it ruins it for everyone.

I have resorted to making my appointments early in the day I ask for the first few appt.. slots. I thik that if my Dr. is rushed to get to the next appt. he/she is not fully paying attention to my needs.

Yes I know how you feel. Sometimes I have to wait over hours for my name to be called. I sit there quite frustrated.

Charge him for your time waiting. After all your time is important too.

Wait for the doctor.They will get to when they can.They would prefer money.
