Current US population: 297 million
Number of Immigrants entering the US this year: 1.1 million
Census Bureau's projection of US population by 2050 because of mass immigration: 420 million

I don't think what your planning is right. I think you are taking advantage of USA's loose immigration structure. Here are a couple excerpts from the article written by the "Federation for American Immigration Reform" indicated in my sources:

"Each year, thousands of women enter the United States illegally to give birth, knowing that their child will thus have U.S. citizenship. Their children immediately qualify for a slew of federal, state, and local benefit programs. In addition, when the children turn 21, they can sponsor the immigration of other relatives, becoming "anchor babies" for an entire clan."

"The Urban Institute estimates that the cost of educating illegal alien children in the nation’s seven states with the highest concentration of illegal aliens was $3.1 billion in 1993 (which, with the growth of their population to 1.3 million, would be more like $5 billion in 2000). This estimate does not take into account the additional costs of bilingual education or other special educational needs."

What does this mean for American citizens?

Higher Taxes: The federal government has control over immigration law for the United States. By not addressing this abuse, the funds that state and local governments must provide to anchor babies amounts to a virtual tax on U.S. citizens to subsidize illegal aliens.

Disrespect for the rule of law: By not closing this loophole, Congress in effect rewards law-breakers and punishes those who have chosen to follow the rules and immigrate legally.

Congressional action warranted: The 14th Amendment stipulates that Congress has the power to enforce its provisions by enactment of legislation, and the power to enforce a law is necessarily accompanied by the authority to interpret that law. Therefore, an act of Congress stating its interpretation of the 14th Amendment, as not to include the offspring of illegal aliens, would fall within Congress's prerogative.

Considering that Texas sent its first bill to Mexico for its illegals and the drain that they are upon the legal citizens of this state - I would suggest not doing such even if you are not from Mexico, cause tax payers within Texas are to the breaking point about those that come here to pop out babies thinking that it is going to help them get a green card.

My suggestion - do it legally and don't bring a child into the world that clearly isn't wanted except to benefit yourself and reeks of selfishness and a self serving attitude with no thought for the child.

Your baby will be a US citizen, but cannot file a petition for your green card until he/she turns 21. It used to be automatic I thought, but since something like 1972 it has been this way. Of course immigration law changes all the time, so it's best if you check with an immigration lawyer for up to date information.

Any baby born in the US is a citizen from birth. It doesn't matter if the parents are immigrants. You might be entitled to benefits. Try contacting the immigration department to have them send you information. This is probably a very common question for them.

The baby will automatically become a U.S. citizen if it is born in the United States but it will not help you become a citizen. You have to do that on your own. There have been articles in the paper recently of the government trying to deport illegals but not their U.S. born children. Please do not bring a child into this world for the soul purpose of trying to get a green card.

I am not sure, but as the tougher laws excluding children who are born in America by immigrants from automatically becoming citizens goes into effect, no. Americans are not doing this to be cruel, but to protect our country from immigrants that come here, and instead of completing the process of immigration pop out babies to try and get it.

actually, unless one of the parents is American, US citizenship is no longer "automatically" granted to children born here. That law was changed many years ago-check with INS! They changed the law in response to the overwhelming numbers of illegal aliens crossing our borders, somehow, just to deliver their children here. The child would become a citizen and since the US typically has a policy of keeping mother and child together, eventually the mother was allowed to apply through regular processing for legalization. That has all changed!! Also be careful, because there are bills being initiated and debated as to force hospitals to report "illegal" status of patients admitted. ...and no matter what-none of our laws ever applied to the legalization by default of a "US child" to the father-only the mother!!

Yes, it's called an anchor baby. Just one of the many ways that illegal immigrants use to get to stay here. I'm not saying YOU'RE illegal. I'm just saying.
Are you having the baby just to get the green card? Because no couple I've ever met that had a baby for some reason other than because it was something they wanted, ever made it.
If one or both of you are illegal then welcome, and thanks for sucking my tax dollars on your free health care.

But if you're both legal, then welcome and best of luck to you.
