I think they bring that up because they are unable to or cannot fathom any other retort to our arguments. Most conservatives also happen to believe in mythology. They preface every their every comment by saying "Well, I'm a Christian..." as if THAT gives them a higher ground or something. "Well, I'm a Christian, so I think that we'll just go bomb a smaller country and take 'em for all they got." Or "Well, I'm a Christian, and I think we should outlaw abortions and end government programs to help the needy." "Well, I'm a Christian and I'll believe the President blindly every time he speaks because he's a Christian too."
Simply stated, I don't belive they have the creativity or intelligence to come up with something better, even to dream about it.
Let's face it, if Washington, and our other founding fathers were alive today, they'd be public enemy number one, labeled as terrorists. Why? Because they fought their country and dared to dream of a better place.
Our founding fathers fought against Brittain to liberate themselves from whom they believed was an unfit ruler. They fought to keep their rights to freedom of religion, privacy, etc. All of which are slowly being taken away from us while we all are on stand by.
Conservatives don't understand that while they would sign all those rights away because of their religious beliefs. We will fight, argue, and SCREAM OUT LOUD! To keep our rights, and make country free, as it should be. Why? Because just as our founding fathers, who fought their Government to improve the country they loved, we LOVE this country and will attempt to improve it, no matter what the costs.

We are indeed, citizens of the United States, as well as Americans. It's important to think that way and remember the reason this country wasn't given a specific name. The idea behind this country is to welcome all comers. To allow people of all backgrounds to become a part of what we are. To name a country is to label it's inhabitants and to seperate them from the world community. We know that Italians are from Italy, and Bolivians are from Bolivia, and Peruvians are from Peru. The beauty of the land in which I live was that a Bolivian can be here, be a citizen of the United States, but still be Bolivian in origin. This is not meant to be the same as all others. You may call me an American, but please, when someone asks you what country, tell them I am a citizen of the United States of America. We are but a small part of America, and not necessarily the defining part. I believe the conservatives cannot fathom the idea of not being able to say "I'm American" without meaning the entire Western Hemisphere, so they work very hard to manipulate the label to have a rallying cry. After all, if they live in a melting pot and not some land that they can be labeled after, how can they attack other races, or ethnicities, or religions. They have to convince themselves that "America" means only their version. That would be White Conservative Christians who allow others to live here out of the goodness of their hearts and by golly if you don't like it, go back where you came from. (Would that fit the definition of irony?). As for me, I'm of Irish/Dutch descent, and a proud citizen of The United States.

You sound like one of the reasonable liberals; and you have to recognize that some of the far left around here is a "hate America" crowd. Its very disturbing to think some of the left prefer Al Queda to GW? How do you guys reconcile that when al queda hates the liberal agenda more then the conservative one?
You say not to communism or socialism but a different direction? Which direction? If its cut and run then how do you handle al queda? If its tax more and spend more how do you keep from tanking the economy? I love the discussion...lets have it.

Ad hominem attacks (i.e. attacking the messenger) is so much easier than thinking or defending one's own position, even if ad hominem attacks are a classic logical fallacy. Call a liberal a name & a conservative won't have to address a single fact or point. (Some liberals engage in this practice, too, but when one must defend a dogmatic & uncompromising president such as our current one, sometimes all they can do is attack the messenger & hope no one notices.)
Not all conservatives are this illogical nor this lazy. But the Internet has brought many illogical and lazy people to debates, some of whom are conservatives. If someone uses an ad hominem attack rather than actually engaging in discussion/debate, call them on it.

I'm conservative and agree with you. It always seems like some people on the other side (no matter what side) think just because you don't believe the way they do you are anti-American. I go to this site to see what views people have and to learn from it in an intellectual way. It seems people always bring up the same stuff and don't want to hear the other persons response because it doesn't match their own. My advise is to listen first, then respond with an intelligent answer.

That's right. I am a Democrat. I am also a Christian. An my Christian values promote me to support fairness for all countries and protection of the environment- God's creation.
Being patriotic doesn't require us agreeing with everything our president says. And being patriotic doesn't mean being willing to go to another country and kill people you don't know because the president says they are a threat to our homeland security when. We should be able to think for ourselves. I love Michigan, which is in the United States and this is my home. I just am not too happy with the Bush administration.

The Conservatives are too busy covering up for their mistakes such as Iran-Contra, Watergate, 911 etc...that they distract the America people with their "hate mongering"...the Anti-Americans are the Conservatives who routinely cut Social programs designed to help the elderly, the handicapped and the poor..."blind patriotism" wrapped in the American flag is covering for a wolf in cheap clothing!

it is easy--liberals do the same thing with the war monger, hate poor people, etc things they say. In any debate these days,it seems like one just waits for the other to stop talking so they can say what they want and when they are tired and ready to go home they yell something hateful. Maybe the hateful words are so they can see it played over and over on TV

Americans are all those people that live from Canada all the way down to Chile. As you might have notice America is the name of the whole continent..you know. It's funny to see how people from the US uses the word "American" to describe themselves...lol... In Spanish we do have a name for people from the US.."Estado Unidenses" which means people from "Estados Unidos" (United States) The rest of us Americans do have a name for example:
I am Peruvian because I come from Peru
People from Mexico: Mexicans
People from Cuba: Cubans, and so on
----------------------------
North America, Central America,Caribe,South America= America

I totally understand that Liberals have the best interest of this country at heart. I also understand that Liberals do not understand the enemy we are dealing with in the global war against radical Islam.
It is extremely frustrating when people think that being passive will stop radical Islam. The damage is done, they are coming after us no matter what we do. It makes alot more sense to fight them in Iraq rather than allow them to use their money and resources to attack Innocent Americans.
