I always thought rain was from the Angels urinating.

Raindrops are not the tears of God. Rain was created for man and His creatures, and He was happy to do it. Mans body is mostly made of water, and God provides the water necessary for life. He rains on the just and the unjust. Why? Because he loves His creation, especially those made in His image. God repented and greived over His creation once, because of evil, and He destroyed the earth by flood. But then he gave us the rainbow and a promise, to never destroy the earth by flood again. God is not sad, because He is in full control. He knows the end from the beginning. And he knows that all will be to His Glory. What is just a hope to us, is fully known by God. The tears that are shed is on this earth by man, but there will be no tears in heaven........Edit....LOL, I thought it was very funny about the one guy who thought it was the angels urinating!

It rained for 40 days and 40 nights because the world had completely become evil and while I'm sure that made him sad, I don't think the rain is really his teardrops. Very pretty symbolism, though.

As far as I remember my bible stories, the flood was to cleanse the world so Noah could start again. It's probably not too much of a leap to suppose that the sin of man was what made him so upset. He had given His children the earth and everything in it, and they had repaid Him by absolute disrespect and contempt, and every time He gave them another chance, they laughed at Him and threw it away. He was brought to the point where He felt the only solution was to destroy His own children. If my children drove me to destroy them, despite all my love and generosity, then that'd upset me desperately, too.

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Genesis 6:5-6

He was sad that He was killing billions of creatures that He had created. Given that He knew He would do this before He even created Adam (He is all knowing), He must have been kicking Himself for being so evil and mean.
