I am an Athiest and I have my own definition, but I want to know what other people think. Are we Christians haters out to destroy religions, people without souls? I want some opinions please. Thank You

Sorry if this question seems a bit rude, but I am sick and tired of people telling me I am a lost soul, or anything like that, because I am Athiest.

A person who does not believe in God.

1- you have souls
2- you may or may not want to destroy religion (depending on your disposition)

Technically, etymologically, it just means someone "without God."

But to me, athieism means not believing in the supernatural. The natural is what it is. We may never undestand it all, but we don't have to ascribe what we don't understand to a magical being. Magical thinking has done enough harm in the world.

I don't hate Christians any more than I would hate someone who believes in Astrology, the Easter Bunny, or the Loch Ness Monster. They are just deluded. I pity them a little, but not too much - we are all fools at one time or another.

I don't want to destroy religion. I do wish people would come to their senses. I don't think that it would help to try and destroy religion - history shows us that when society tries to force progressivism on believers, fundamentalism is created. This is a step that they have to take on their own - they cannot be forced.

I don't believe in the soul. I do believe in the brain. I do believe in the abstract concept of the mind, even if it is only a useful delusion (like the "windows" on my computer screne.) But the soul? No, I see no reason to believe in it. I'll have to use the Razor on that one. For some, it may be a "useful delusion", but if you don't believe in life after death, that what is the soul? It is just the mind.

Peace,
Kevin

My definition of an Athiest would be someone who does not believe in a higher being. An Athiest doesn't worship or pray to anyone or anything. I don't believe they are out to hate all Christians, I just believe they think differently. While they are allowed to think their way, they need to allow other beliefs to practice their religions in their own ways too.

An atheist is someone who doesn't worship an obvious god and claims to not worship any god at all. I don't necessarily agree. There is strong evidence that search for God is genetic discovered in 2004 by Dr. Dean Hamer (interestingly the same geneticist who original coined the idea that homosexuality is genetic, then recanted when it was disprove). So it seems obvious to me that since God pre-programmed the urge to seek Him into our gene pool that we will either seek and find Him or deny Him and create our own gods. I can't say what each person's is. Many idolize money, the planets, sex, power, science, celebrities, etc. For all I know some may worship the TV itself. But I think if you're honest you'll find that you do too.

One who does not believe in any deity, like the answer above. I'm an atheist personally, but if you start hating people who practices religion, that just makes you an asshole.

I was raised catholic, so I'm quite familiar with who Jesus is. For some reason, I like his teaching, so a Christian trying to be a good person is OK in my book. That does not mean that they (most of them do) should hate me because I don't believe in their god. As long as they're not out to change other people's belief, and they can co-exist with other people peacefully, then hurray for them.

atheists is someone who doesn't believe in a Supreme Being (GOD) exists!....and that to me is fine & dandy because you have a right & a choice to believe & serve whatever or whomever you choose!...However, there is a big problem when atheists come on this religious/spiritual site just for the purpose of judging, condemning, insulting, spreading their hate toward religion especially toward christians, harrassing, being rude, and stiring up strife!......and yes, they have plainly proved on this site that they are Truly God & Christian Haters And That They Are Out To Destroy Religions, Especially Christians!

Atheists are simply people who do not believe in any god at all. We also don't believe in an afterlife of any sort,or souls. (I suppose you could say atheists are soulless, but no more so than anyone else on earth!) We either look to science to explain the mysteries of life, or we accept that we just don't know the answers.

Atheists, by definition, simply don't believe in a god or in gods. If they choose to have an agenda or anything further, that is their own choice, but is not a definition of Atheist. No more than Christians who commit hate crimes speak for all Christians. No more than Muslims who commit suicide bombings speak for all Muslims.

No, i don't believe that you are out to destroy Christianity. I think we may end up destroying ourselves. An atheist as I know it is someone who does not believe in a supreme being at all. Many believe whole-heartedly in Science.

I don't care what people choose to believe. My atheism is the result of studying religion & history and realizing God belief has no credible foundation.

I support Mormons & Muslims and if a person needs to believe in God, he can do no better than one of those two philosophies, depending on personal preference.

A true/real atheist is someone who doesn't believe there is any diety.

However, I find that many people (I'm not saying you) who claim to be atheists are pathetic posers who will say anything to get attention. A real atheist has no reason to hate religious people. Your beliefs are your own, and the beliefs of others belong to them.
