My ex boyfriend and I broke up on account of my dad because he was against me going out with a black guy.[And my dad is racist]and Im white.What are your thoughts on this.Dont you think I should follow my heart or follow what my dad wants?Is interacial dating that bad?whats yalls opinion?

I think its beautiful when people can express their feelings and not bow to the status que placed on us by society. People forget the culture of america and so it seems, there isn't what they would describe a "problem" with this situation, They choose not to address it, well the "problem" is people being color blind, to the specifics of the word, BLIND TO THE COLORS AROUND YOU. They are unwilling to accept them and hence they are not there or you are blind to them. I don't believe in color blindness, its ignorance, it needs to change, be aware of the wonderous variety around you and accept it. I Think its extremly interesting to learn about other people's ways of life. I think its really sad that people of any race can simply 'dis' others becuase they are of any color.

It's a shame that your dad is racist, so was mine. He probably won't change his mind anytime soon. Personally, I don't find that interracial dating is bad. But, you may risk the relationship with your dad. There is a chance he may feel embarrassed, and never forgive you, especially if you get pregnant. He may not treat the child as his own grandchild, or he may even mistreat the child. If you're not in love with someone, then I say don't make problems. If you're in love with a black guy, then maybe after you're of age, you can talk to your dad. Some people think that interracial dating and marriage is a fad that will pass in time, while others think its here for good. You have some important decisions to make in the future, but don't make any decisions quickly. All this must be thought out completely, the consequences of doing one or the other. My opinion as a human being and as a mother fall in the same category: I might disagree with decisions you make, but they are YOUR decisions. That doesn't make me love you any less, and if you're really happy right now, then I'm behind you 100%. Those are words straight from my mouth directed toward my daughter more than once. She is her own person. If she were to truely find love with someone of a different race, who am I to say no to her? No one ever told me who I could and couldn't love. I'm sorry this happened to you, but depending on your age, and considering the situation with your father, I'd say put up with it till you're 18. Once the adulthood sets in, you're free to date whomever you choose. And dad doesn't have to even know about it by then. The only piece of advice I give you is this: Be sure he loves you back..no matter who he is. Keep your heart in tact because it's never the same once it's been broken.

No its not at all bad. I am a white male and my ex of 5 years was a black woman and loved each other very much and we are still friends and yes I would be into another when it comes around again you have to follow your heart . Good luck

While racism still exists, mostly in older folks, society is evolving. It is more and more commor to see mixed couples. Unfortunately for you and your boyfriend, your dad does not approve.
He is your dad and deserves your respect always and your obedience while you live with him. He may not even be racist. Many dads have trouble thinking any boy is good enough for their daughter and your boyfriend's race might just be a convenient excuse.
Interracial dating is not bad. Disobeying a concerned and loving parent is very bad.

How old are you? I guess you have to respect your dad's rules if you're living in his house but there is nothing wrong with interracial dating. Whoever said blacks have no love foe whites does not speak for everyone. that's just another racist. Just keep in mind that racism is wrong. when and if you are legal, you date who you like.
The only problems that occur in interracial relationships (other than typical relationship problems), exist because of the mindset of the people involved. Interracial dating is not wrong. It's natural. YES, TO THE RACISTS. IT"S NATURAL.

1st there should be no racism and your dads attitude stinks..you have to follow your heart and do what you think is right..theres nothing wrong in interacial relations its a world wide thing..tell your dad we are now in the 2006. era..he should wake up to the world around him. be lucky in your decitions..

everyone saying its ok to date outside their race but when a person ,lets say a white man only wants to date white women,marry a white women,have white children thats not racist its only natural but everyone says he is a racist cause he only dates white,same case could be said for a blackman or spanish etc,and if he dont want to date a women of his own race cause she dose date outside her race thats ok too,cause he is avoiding trouble down the road in the way they raise their children etc,but at the same time she like men of other races so be it but its ok if certain people dont want to date her
