Is it not true that the vast majority are not influenced by religion when it comes to ethical behaviour but by their natural sense of sympathy, empathy and common sense ? Why does a Catholic use contraception even though it is forbidden by his church ? Why does a Muslim become good friends with a Christian when if they were to follow their religion to the letter of the law they should really spurn the so called infidels. Why does a Christian attend their friend’s gay wedding and wish him/her every happiness ? Is it possible that we are all ruled by our emotions whether they be good or bad and this invariably overrides religious belief. If all Christians and Muslims in the world actually followed their religions to the letter of the law, we would all be dead now. Thank goodness, most (but sadly not all) people don't actually follow their religions strictly and rather they follow their natural sense of sympathy, empathy and common sense which are for the most part good..In a nutshell, good people will do good and bad people will do bad with or without religion.

I'm Catholic, and I believe in my religion completely. Because I'm a sinner, I don't always follow it perfectly, and when I don't, that's what the sacrament of confession is for. But I believe completely that all the teachings of the bishops in union with the Pope are divine and infallible teachings. Jesus (God in the flesh) gave all of His authority to the Catholic Church, and in particular the Pope, to teach infallibly in all matters of faith and morals.

The good thing about being Catholic is that you never have to be confused about what to believe with faith and morals. Our God does not want us to be confused about what to believe about Him or His teachings, so He gave us the Catholic Church to guide us and gave the Holy Spirit to the Church to guarantee that the Church will never teach heresy (a false gospel).

That's a good but sad observation because statistics show that things like divorce are just as high among professing Christians as their secular counterparts.

All I can say is that many people are either ignorant or what their religion teaches in all aspects, or they are not truly devoted followers, or they have been deceived into thinking that showing up for church makes a person a Christian. I pray that they will have the light of Christ shine in their hearts before it's too late and they hear Jesus say these dreaded words to them on judgment day..." I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" :o(

yes and no. Since people are not perfect following all aspects of a religion could be very hard. After all we all have our short comings but that does not stop us from wanting to try. We are also human and part of being any religion also includes in most cases being part of a community and knowing that others have the right to believe how they want as long as it does not cause harm to others. So we accept others for who they are but don't always approve of their choices. So being Muslim and having a Christian friend is not necessarily against their religion but how they understand their religion. Being Christian and going to a friends gay wedding does not necessarily mean that you approve of their life choices but of accepting their right to make their own choices.

So we all seem to fall short of our religion but many of us keep trying and we do believe fully but because we are not perfect as God is perfect we don't always meet the 'goal' that God set for us.

You show me a person that doesn't believe in "their" own religion in its entirity and I will show you a FOOL. Why would you be a part of something that has parts of it that you don't belive in. If one part is rotten the whole thing must go!!

Religion is the name of a road that takes you to God. There are many roads to choose to get there, just as long as you do all is good.
