when he told them to kill all the little kids, but keep the little virgin girls as a prize?
-----------------------------
31:15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
31:16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
31:17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
31:18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves

There is also a purpose behind a guy raping some girl, he may want to keep his gene pool going too. A biology or history lesson wont answer if a good god endorsed this.

In the battle with Midian, the Israelites preserved alive only virgins from among the women and girls. (Nu 31:3, 18, 35) The Law allowed for the taking of a wife from among such parentless female war captives. (De 21:10-14) Within the Promised Land itself God’s warning concerning marriage alliances with pagans was often ignored, with resulting problems and apostasy.—Jg 3:5, 6.
Num. 31:16 is talking about how Balaam reasoned with King Balak and also with the Midianite rulers, that if they could cause the Israelites to become disloyal to God, then God himself would curse them. Balaam suggested that they entice the Israelites into engaging in sex worship of Baal of Peor. This happened after the Isaelites arrived in Moab, Balaam had made three attempts to curse Israel, but each time God caused Balaam to pronounce a blessing.

That was a practice of conquerers in ancient times used by the Egyptians, the Greeks, and the Romans. Doesn't necessarily constitute a command from God as it was common practice to kill all the men but keep those who were future breeding stock for the men. Besides why would this be a problem for Christians? Jesus died to change how things were done (or at least that is the idea). Now it is the Jews who should have a problem justifying themselves.
BTW, Moses was a historical figure but it is the stories that can be disputed as embellished or not. All figures in the Bible from Abraham onward have proven historical existence.

Keeping the virgins was a custom in the middle east mainly to keep the gene pool going. If you understand ancient customs when a country is defeated the young girls were taken because they usually are not taught about The Gods of that nation where as the young boys are.
The girls where not raped but raised in households to understand Hebrew traditions and their God. When they eventually do marry they will not cause the men to turn to other gods because they where raised in Hebrew traditions.
The Women and men where killed because a woman once she is married has already been taught about false gods and most likely will not take a conquering nations man as a husband once hers has been killed.
So I am sorry if you thought it was a pedophile religion but no. There was a purpose behind it.

You must remember that Moses himself was a lawgiver, ruler and judge of the Jews that he led out of Egypt.
When Moses received the Ten Commandments --directly from God's own "Handwriting"-- Moses knew that it would be too hard for his people, the Jewish nations of twelve tribes, to follow such Laws.
Therefore Moses pleaded to God and had asked to make up his 'other' hundred or so laws that would not necessarily go against God's commandments, albeit that they could not follow strictly to the letter of The Law given.
It is conceivable that the text you cited pertaining to saving the womenfolk of the nations that they had conquered also emanated from Moses as well.
Peace be with you!

No, God only told them to avenge themselves against the Midianites. That must have been Moses' idea.
Numbers 31:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

Yes God told Moshe to get rid of an EVIL people and Moshe did it. You have a problem with it or something?Who says God has to play by your silly rules, the bad people never do.

The Bible doesn't say whether Moses was acting under God's instructions by giving those directions then or not.

God was punishing this tribe (the midianites) for the evil things that they had done. God was protecting His chosen people, Israel, so that one day the earth would be blessed through them. (The Bible, Jesus Christ came from Israel).

Biblically, yes.
Moses is a fictional character, but he does encapsulate the ideals of those who wrote that crap.
