Try and get her to see the damage she/he is not only doing to herself but also the impact it is having on your life. Try to let her/him know that it is also getting you down and is making you sick with worry. Let them know that you are always there for them - you care for them and hate seeing them destroy their body in this way. Try and get them to go out with you when they are feeling down and when they feel like taking the drugs. Tell them that they can always count on you for support and hugs and chats! if all that comes to nothing then I believe that it is time to be cruel to be kind. Tell them that you are not happy with their lifestyle as it is negatively affecting your life and that, is not something you should have to put up with. Give yourself space away from this friend and let them know that you do not like what they are doing at all and will not be in touch as much if it means they continue to reck both there life and your life like this.
Show them that there is more to life that getting high out of your head into a zombie-like state and that, there are more things in life that can be done to achieve even stronger, natural highs. I have seen too many people damaged by drugs and it usually starts off with the 'softer' of the type of drugs but eventually leads on to more use and stronger substances being used. try to stop the cycle now before it really is too late. x

I'm only speaking for myself and my limited experience, but I think it's impossible to make anyone lose the desire for drugs. I've recently helped a friend stop using, and the only helping I did was bail him out of jail once and be really hard on him. Other people were trying to tell him it was going to be alright, but I told him that if he lied to me again I would never speak to him. There were times when I thought I might contribute to him killing himself, but he thanked me in the end and said I was the second most important reason he's cleaned up today (he's the most important reason, addicts won't get better until THEY want to).

Remember that you can't trust addicts and they lie to you. This is kind of a babbling answer, but it is a perplexing question.

the best thing you can do is not be an enabler. your friend will have to have the desire not to use. Try taking your friend to a meeting of narcotics anonymous. they have open meetings you two could attend or try a speaker meeting where someone shares their story. you can find a meeting list on-line

search for a popular actor actress who died of drug overdose and tell your friend about it.

however if they dontwant to quit they won't no matter how hard you try.

tell yr friend you are worried about her/him and that hyou even asked online how to help her/him to quit

show him an ugly picture of someone liek Whitney HOuston who I saw recently online the pic of her after she's done crack, she lookss so awful ...a before and after picture

LOOK FOR THAT PIC , THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA. THE CHANGE IS DRASTIC.

you cant help anyone unless they want to help them self, i would avoid AA unless your friend wants to go, other wise you would be closing the doors for the biggest lines of help. the only other option is get all the friends and family together, and hopefully that might wake them up to the damage that they are doing to there loved ones. And arm yourself before hand, do the research before you confront them.

Include your friend in non drug activitites. Sometimes the need to self medicate is secondary to the real problem. Be a friend
