do you think that it is right to be enformed about other religions, by reading up on them in order to know what you are praying for. like going to watch the da vinci code to know what you must stand against or reading up on satanism so you and others can stand firmly against it. "my people perish because of a lack of knowledge"

I think a few of the more serious answers, that were obviously written by people who believe the bible, were very good. I just wanted to add that you can get a good book from a notable Christian author titled The Kingdom of the Cults, by Walter Martin. It has a short synopsis on all major cults. This book actuallys lays them out side-by-side with Christianity so that you can see the difference in what you believe, vs. what they believe. It keeps you prepared to "give a reason for the faith you have", without you having to actually dive in and read the whole Book of Mormon etc.
Shalom - Maranatha . :)

It is good to know a little about other religions. BE sure, YOU have your own religion intact, and stand FIRM on the Word of God. Don't let yourself be deceived. It all comes down to Faith.
If you have "unshakable", faith, you can pretty much read OR watch whatever you choose to.
IF...YOU have a FIRM stand for Christ, then once you start reading and watching these things, they kinda bother you, wasting your time. That only comes with "spiritual growth". I have not seen the da vinci joke. I don't need too. It doesn't matter what a TV writer claims, GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE. He always has been, and always will be. No where in that movie, proves or can even remotely cast controversy on a Christian. That movie was made to make unbeliever's still doubt and "weak", Christians in faith to stumble. A well grounded Christian can and will eat up the da vinci hoax. why?

GOD'S TRUTH, TRIUMPHS OVER LIES, EVERY TIME.

Be sure your real well grounded in the Word, before tracing off in other religions. False gods and teachers are very slick and very cunning. Don't fall in a snare.

Good Question.

I would suggest reading 2 Cor. 6:14-17.

.Some other things you might want to consider. Satan is called the god of this system of things (2 Corinthians 4:4) . To accomplish his purpose he “keeps transforming himself into an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14) Looking into these things is dangerous.

All false religion is actually a product of Satan, the Apostle Paul stated: “The things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” Jesus said: “He that is not on my side is against me, and he that does not gather with me scatters.” Furthermore, Christ allowed no room for interfaith, but said: “No one comes to the Father except through me.”—1 Corinthians 10:20; Matthew 12:30; John 14:6.

Satan exploits man’s curiosity regarding the occult and the condition of the dead. By such totally unscriptural devices as talking with the dead, or spiritism, fortune-telling, astrology and black magic, he has ensnared countless numbers. In fact, today there is an ever-increasing interest in such things. This has gone to such an extreme that some are actually worshiping the Devil himself.—Exodus 22:18; Leviticus 19:26; 20:6; Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

Your people are perishing because their wising up.

If you have a call to study or learn different things it is only because the path you are on may not be the right one for you.
No disrespect intended here. But there are reasons why thoughts are put in your mind. Paths are chosen by it. Step wisely and listen, feel and learn as you go. That is all you have know. It's an individual thing. Don't be fooled thinking that you must lead others to believe as you.

Absolutely. You can't know how to reach out to others without knowing what you should be reaching out to. A long time ago I read The World's Religions by Huston Smith, which gives a good overview of many major religions, and it's been invaluable for me.

The Kingdom Of The Cults is also a good reference work, the original version, not the revised one. It helps to know what other people believe.

I think it's very important. Especially if you are a minister. You have to know why you oppose the other religion. Also, there are many stereotypes about people of other religions, you want to be sure to preach against the teaching but not to tag the followers, necessarily as bad people (as some do). If you're sure about ou're faith, it shouldn't change your beliefs.

Don't waste your time.

Lack of knowledge is referring to knowledge of God and His Word.

2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

To some extent. I wouldn't claim to be expert on any of it, by any means.

Of course, the knowledge God's people die from the lack of is the knowledge of Him and His will, not of other ideologies.

In the end, it's not about disproving them, but showing Jesus in the way we live our lives.
