Yes, Air Force is slowest of all. But I still enjoyed it. I had my own room, I had great training, I could go home every night. I never had to sleep in a tent, nor carry a back pac. Never carried or even shot a gun, and no one ever shot at me. I did have to shovel the walk a couple of times, march in a parade or two, and there were a couple of room inspections. It was brutal. I may not have done much soldiering (thus the reason I went Air Force), but worked incredibly hard and came out of the service with a job offer of 3X's my military pay. So fast promotion was not an issue with me.

Army promotes the fastest. The more people in an organization, more higher ranking positions.

The Marines are next until E-6

Then Navy

Air Force and Coast Guard last. There are more higher raniking positions in the Army than there all positions in teh Air Force or Coast Guard.

Also, the job you go into matters also. I have known people in the Army to be bypassed simply because at the top end there are only 15-20 positions and hundreds at the bottom.

Promotions mean experience, leadership and pay. Go for what is most important to you. Look at all branches first. I recommend taking the ASVAB only, then finding out what your scores will do for you BEFORE you enlist. Do not raise your right hand without the EXACT job in your contract, not a field, but job.

The Army has the fastest, but the Navy is currently changing the way they promote. I was promoted fairly fast in the Navy because I studied hard and got advanced on all my ranks on the first try. I started out as an E-1 and made E-6 in just under 6 years.

The navy promotes the fastest. The navy is the only branch that you can take your exam twice a year double your chances. It has the largest job market of all services therefore less crowded less competition within the job to advancement but i said less not there isn't, there fore some jobs like medical (HM) everybody wants this, its crowded and its the hardest to advance. You have to study really hard in order to beat your competition in there. The army is the largest branch by number of service members but more crowded in them. Really take the time and do your research cause all these knuckle heads above dont know what they are talking about. Check the advancement with the jobs instead of the branch because you can go navy thinking your going to advance fast cause you heard but you end up picking a job that everybody wants and struggle advancing so you end up no different than the other services.

The best way to look at promotion is as if it was a pyramid. The base is obviously the largest "rank", in both enlisted and officer ranks, More privates than Sgt, more Lt's than Captains. Usually promotions come with a set "time in grade" , you will normally get promoted within 18mths to 2 years. During combat activities promotions can be made rapidly. (famous quote "war is great for the promotion lists"). Non-combat promotions can occur for meritorious service (an idea that saves your unit time and or money), or humanitarian relief (National Guard during Katrina).
Really you should use the axiom, the more you put in to the Service, the more you will get out of it. Good luck

All branches have the same time requirements for advancement
but it really depends on whether your specialty is under or over manned and the amount of work you do to advance yourself.
Just like earning merit badges in the scouts you have to be trained for the job you are doing first in school and then onsite.
The better you do and the faster you achieve those qualifications
the faster you earn rank. Don't be afraid to set goals for your
self that are greater than those around you. The sky is the limit
and there are captains and even Admirals that started as enlisted men.

None it's all the same just different names for ranks in some branches. And some promotion deals when going in and you can advance a rank upon completion of something especially physical test or college credits but not like what you maybe thinking. Always a catch always.

Definitely Army, !8 months you can be E-4, (or come enlist as an E-4 with a bachelors degree), 2 years you can be E-5 (or 15 months if you come in with a bachelors degree), 4 years you can be an E-6, and it's possible to make E-7 in 7 years, but after that you'll probably be E-7 for another 7 years, HOOAH!!!, STAY ARMY!

The coast guard is the fastest. They have less people. So you get recognized more. My husband is in the Navy. It depends how you score on the test they give. Or if they have room for advancement. Usually they take a certain percentage for advancement. I'm sure though the Coast Guard works the same way. But I heard it was faster.

The Army has the fastest promotion system, as long as you can show up at the right place, on time and be in the right uniform.
Oh yeah...you sould be able to do your job. If not, you'll can still get promoted to SGT/E-5, serve in Iraq in an infantry unit and spend your time as the guy who signs people in to use the phones!
