Charles Chaplin had many roles and few responsibilities, that was why he was so funny.
However a military chaplain is a priest, rabbi, minister, or whatever serving both his country and his parishioners at the same time. He has the same roles and responsibilities as any other minister, however he may at times give the same advice and solace to others not of his specific religion.
