If you're really interested, this is why. Catholic priests stand in persona Christi, that is they act in the person of Christ, of who the Church is the spiritual bride. Thus the priest is also espoused to the Church. If he was married, he would not be solely devoted in spirit to his bride. But at other times in history they have been permitted to marry, it just seems more fitting for them not to be.
Leaders of Protestant churches, however, are allowed to marry because they serve their communities as ministers and as you called them, leaders. They do not act as Christ Himself, and thus they don't stand in the same spiritual relationship to their church.

If you are a priest in the Anglican/Episcopal Church or a priest in the Eastern Orthodox Church you are allowed to marry. Roman Catholic priest are not allowed to be married. The only execption is if the priest is an Eastern Rite priest. Currently, many priest in the Anglican and Orthodox churches are being accepted into the Roman Catholic priesthood, and they are married. So it is a misconception that priest dont marry.
Roman Catholic priest for the most part cannot marry for a few reasons. For one reason the priest are a model of Jesus on the Earth, and Jesus did not mary. Another reason is the devotion of a priest is to be fully to church and parish. I know of a priest in my city that averages 20 baptisms, 8 weddings, 15 funerals a week along with office work and daily Mass a week! How the freak can he have a family. Protesant ministers in all truthfullness dont have quite as much to worry about in terms of services.
Be called to the priesthood is a verry special calling.

Priests take a vow of celibacy because Jesus never married. The Scripture referred to is Matt. 19:12 "..they have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept this."
However, we know for a fact that Peter was married (Matt. 8:14) Since all the apostles were Jewish we should assume that they followed the traditional teaching that man was only half a man until married & that he should be married by 20. So Jesus obviously had not problem with it.
And Paul also refers to staying celibate (as he did) but if one was already married to stay married so as not to be consumed by lusts.
So marriage of the ministry is not prohibited. Even the Catholic church didn't make celibacy mandatory until the 12th Century (in 1139). There was a long struggle leading up to that but it's not quite as old a tradition as one would think.

Men set up the bylaws of the organizations. The Lord is probably sitting upon his throne laughing at how foolish some of the rules are.

Catholicism is different from other religions in that aspect because a priest believes that he is to be committed to god and not be tempted by earthly pleasures. other religions do not feel that way. they do not view marriage the same. It is all in what you believe.
