i have seen many insults directed at christians using the word "sin"in various applications.
it seems to me if they don't believe in God then the word shouldn't have any meaning to them, therefore they wouldn't use it since it is usually assoiciated with a religous connotation.
enlighten me.

I'm fairly new to the forum and have not honestly seen the insults thrown at Christians but, I've certainly read many questions concerning such insults. As a non-insulting, non-Christian I can only offer my opinion. Those of us who are not Christian are constantly called 'sinners' by Christians. Some of us get pretty sick of this and throw the insult back. Unfortunately, sometimes they hit the wrong Christian. And, just as a sidebar, the term 'sin' originally meant 'missing one's mark'. Just as an archer might hit his target slightly off center. Really nothing like it is used today, at all.

A person's belief or disbelief in a certain concept has no bearing on the truth of it.
God judges sin.
If a person chooses not to believe in God that doesn't change the definition of sin nor does it change the consequences.

I think perhaps you're not understanding that, to the typical atheist, "sin" does not exist. However, in order to talk to you, we have to use your language so you can understand our point(s).

See, that's something you don't do. And I mean, you Xians. You don't even remotely attempt (except perhaps this question) to speak in a common tongue. It's always numbers and verses, sin and salvation. Why think and debate when you've got a bible, a few rehearsed quotes and a weekly dose of guilt trip?

In short, we're getting our points across by speaking your language.

So, there's your 'enlightenment'. Have fun with it!

I am a Wiccan, for me the word sin has no meaning other than what the dictionary designates it as. To me the word belongs to those religions that use it as part of their belief system. I myself don't use the word.

It doesn't mean anything to me. I don't believe in it. I also know that good and evil do not exist in the objective reality so "God"(sp?) cannot be good and therefore the Christian god who is defined as being good cannot exist.

Horrible isn't it.
