Because that's how people do politics most of the time- not that I like it. Also, I think approval ratings had to do with it.

Because, like intelligent people here are saying, if you set a date for when we leave Iraq the terrorists will just wait us out then launch attacks after we are gone causing many more deaths than there has been in the 3 years we've been at war. That is why we have to stay there and finish our job and NOT leave until it is finished. Think about it from a soldiers viewpoint: would you like to live the rest of your life knowing that you starting fighting somewhere and pulled out like a coward when the going got tough?? The thought of that alone probably makes soldiers in Iraq cringe.

Because introducing a time line for withdraw well just tell the insurgents when we will be gone so they can launch a massive attack after we leave. When we leave no matter what the outcome is it looks like a victory for the radical Islamics.

You call it playing politics I call it having my best interest and safety at heart.

Because he drafts plans for any number of scenarios. He also drafted one for elevated involvement, one for current levels of involvement, etc. That's what military planners do, they plan for contingiencies. This allows decision makers to understand their options. I'd hate to really pop your bubble, but there are probably several plans for withdrawal. There's also plans for military actions in Iran, North Korea, Russia, China, etc. Don't take it out of context, and don't assume political motive in every governmental action.

He drafted one option. The Dem's have been playing politics too. So don't be so bull headed. Any absolute time line would not be good as the Dem's want and the Repub's don't. The Dem's want a deadline and not a time line and theirs would be rigid and not flexible.

because the Dems want a static timetable for pulling out: exactly how we lost Vietnam. the Military's plan is a realistic plan for REDUCING troop strength

its the dems who have been politicizing the war. they don't have a plan, like kerry they have only bad ideas. their only plan is to blame bush for everything.
