I think in a way whether anyone wants to admit it or not, everyone is afraid of their future. Some of course are afraid of it more then others but we are all afraid of something. Success, failing, losing the ones we love, or not doing everything we want to do. We are all afraid of something that will or will not come and accepting it is the only way to fully overcome it. A rich person might be afraid of making a wrong move and losing all their worth, a famous person might be afraid of losing that fame, and a poor person might worry about where their next meal will come from. The question is not if you are afraid the question is are you letting this fear control your life? It is ok to be afraid but to let that fear take over your daily life is the bad thing. We must learn that mistakes will be made and not everything will go our way, but that's life.

I used to be. Then a friend gave me a good kick up the backside.
'Are you happy with your life as it is?' she asked.
'No', I answered.
'Well, you must be,' she told me.
'Why? You know I hate my life.'
'You must be because you're not working to change your life. If you weren't happy with it, you'd be trying to change it. I mean, where do you want your life to be going?'
'You know . . . I want to be a writer.'
'No, you don't,' she said. 'If you did, you'd be doing something about it. Is being a writer the most important thing to you? If you had to pick one thing in your life, would that be it?'
'Yes,' I answered, quite intimidated by this point.
'Then why are you letting other stuff get in the way? Why are you letting it distract you? It must be because it's more important.'
This went on for ten mintues or so. The upshot was that she convinced me of something: decide what you want to do with your life, and go out there, and do everything in your power to make it happen. If you're not fighting for it every single day, every single moment, you've got no right to be dreaming about it. She's a very, very determined gal, and speaks from personal experience.
Now I am fighting, my future doesn't scare me. It doesn't scare me because right now, I'm fighting for what I believe in, and I'm going to keep on fighting, and if I ever win, I'll fight for one of the many other things I believe in.
Don't get me wrong: the future is a very scary place. With the current atmosphere of political violence, dwindling oil supplies, increasing media power, increasing corporate power and individual powerlessness, religious fanaticism and dogma increasingly influencing political decisions, the looming Myia deadline of 2012 and everything else, a person would have to be blind, stupid and burried in a hole not to be worried of the future. But I've picked my battle, and you can only fight one, so everything else is going to have to wait. We've made it through this far. I'm sure we'll muddle through somehow.

do not be afraid of your own future, be concerned with how you are going to handle it. i don't know what my future holds, but i am doing my best.
i believe that the "past" is merely a lesson for you to learn, the "present" is the chance to improve and work on it, because the harder you work on your "present" the better your "future" will be.

Yes because I am 25 and I don't know if I will find the right one, have kids etc. My family says your one will come, but who knows. These days no one gets married and a lot of people get divorced. Money doesn't matter happiness DOES

yes and no. yes because you dont know whats coming exactly and no because you have the power to start it, you have a clue to whats coming next. Its like a sheet of paper with no words and only by puting in the first sentence will you have a clue to what your going to face.

Good question. I'm not afraid of it - if anything I try to be realistic. I know that I'm going to get old...that I may have money problems...that my kids (when I have them) may dislike me. Either way, I welcome all of that...it's what makes life great.
