I started at around 9 months. I think some cups they sell state 6 months. I started with water(less messy) and no valve in it so she can get use to the turning it up to her mouth. By 10 months she had the valve back in and was doing just fine.

When they are able to hold there bottle on there on, around 6 to 9 months. My youngest began uses a sippy cup around 6 months for practice and had it master within a month. I started by using the sippy cup with the soft spout almost like a bottle nipple but eventually had to go to hard to cause once her teeth came in she bit through the slits. My oldest I waited until she was a year old.

I am a mother of two and I feel that every child is different so there is no set age but if your child has turned one years old then they are (in my eyes) too big for a bottle. If you are not sure how they will do off of the bottle try the sippy cups with the soft top which is like a bottle and it won't be a complete shock for the child.

As soon as they will take it. I would just make sure that the baby is getting enough formula/breast milk if you decide to use it in place of the bottle up until a year or so. Actually if the baby wants it, its a good thing. The older the baby/toddler is, the harder it is to get them to switch to the sippy cup.

It all depends on when they are ready for one. My son started on a sippy cup at 10 months, but he held it and drank from it just fine. It's up to your really. I noticed the babies that had more teeth before one usually switched to a sippy cup sooner.

I started giving my daughter a sippy cup around six months - I used one with two handles to help her hold it. It was more to get her used to the idea of a cup and to drink something other then breastmilk/out of a bottle. Good luck!

Baby should go off the bottle at 12 mos according to my granddaughter's pediatrician. Easiest way to get them off is to only give water int he bottle and other things in a sippy cup. That way they will prefer the cup but you can give the cup any time the child is able and willing to use it really.

When you have one to give, give it. If the baby is ready to drink out of it, you'll find out pretty quickly.
FYI - choose one brand of sippy cups that your child likes and stick to it. That way, the tops and valves are interchangeable. You will be using these a lot longer than either you nursed or used bottles.
And forget juice. Babies and toddlers need no more than 1/4 cup of orange juice daily. They do not need apple or grape or any other juice. Give water and milk.
