Vehicle code section 5200 states "Display of License Plates
5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the
department for use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to
the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and
the other in the rear."
Since California issues 2 plates per car, it is required to have one both displayed on car.

Yes. In fact, at airports it is considered a security risk to allow cars that do not have front plates.
There are many cars that violate this law, and it is enforced inconsistently.
In general, you can expect to be ticketed at a major airport for not having front plates, and you may get a warning or just get away with it on the street. It just depends on the officer involved. But yes, it is the law in California. Good luck!

I live in Los Angeles, CA and I got a parking ticket (yes, while my car was parked) just 2 months ago for not having a front licence plate. Getting a new set of plates will only cost you around 20 bucks and an hour wait at the DMV. A ticket will cost you 76 bucks.

Unfortunately, it is the law to have a front license plate. It's so they can nab you at those photo-enforced lights.

yes it is but if your car was not made with a spot to affix it then you can put it in your front window but check with the car manufacturer to see if they make an adapter to be able to put it on your bumper

Yes, or you'll get a ticket if a cop sees you without it, and decides to pull you over.
