cleptomania is the term. Here the person may not really be in need of things, but cannot just control the urge to pick things

If you mean stealing compulsively, that'd be kleptomania. If you mean like plucking at people, that might be obsessive compulsive disorder or a security complex.

obsessive compulsive picking lint off of someones shirt,seeing if their shoes are tied....or if you mean doing what the other person just did....a copycat.
