Yes. That is correct. For those who say they only pray for Mary's intersession, Jesus Christ is the only one true intercessor. Mary can do nothing for you. I would like someone to show me in the Bible where they get this from. This is a product of man not God. Someone told someone to start praying to Mary so they did. That is just like worshiping another God. Why don't catholics read the Bible and not just take the word of a human, a priest.

My friend, we Catholics do not worship Mary.

I wish I had a dime for every time I've had to set someone straight on that issue, on this Q&A board. I'd be a very rich person by now.

Have you ever been to a Catholic Mass?

It's obvious that you haven't -- if you have, you'd surely know that Mary is hardly mentioned at all, and never in a way that could be construed as worship.

Surely if we worshipped Mary, she'd be mentioned prominently at Mass, since Mass is the high point of Catholic worship.

But she's hardly mentioned at all in Mass, and never in a worshipping way.

I'm afraid you're confusing "worship" with "honor and veneration." They are not the same thing.

I'm also afraid that you've fallen for a common misconception about Catholics.

Don't be so gullible!

Don't get your "information" about Catholicism from people who are not even Catholic and whose "knowledge" of Catholicism is sorely lacking.

not all Catholics "worship Mary" (as you say...)

I don't agree with the whole concept of "Praying to the Saints"; but then again, if you look at the various denominations there are things in all of them which one could probably decipher as being idolatry.

I guess it all depends on the 'motivation' in doing whatever it is they're doing.

...but yeah, "Mary Worshipping" could definately be considered as idolatry...God is God. Mary is NOT God, therefor she shouldn't be worshipped ~ even if she was the very respected "Mother of Christ".

I have nothing against Catholics by the way. I just don't agree with what you mentioned (if it really happens??!?!)

Actually Mary represents the Divine Mother aspect of God. They are worshiping the feminine aspect of God. It is not an Idol. She is for real.

People need to stop thinking that it is wrong to worship a Holy Mother when they also worship a Holy Father "Jesus".

Do we worship our mothers our fathers or our husbands or wives or boyfriends or girlfriends? If yes, then we are guilty of idol worship too (and they are even live idols for that matter) if we base the merits of the argument with yours. If worshipping Mary is Idolatry then worshipping them is idolatry too. Mary is not a diety and this has been answered here many many times. We ask her to pray for us like a friend would pray for you.

In yahoo answers, there are those who request for prayers for members of their family. So, how is that different from requesting Mary to pray for you. If you believe that a prayer of those who do not know you in person is still effective, how difficult is it to understand the effectivity of the prayers or intercession of the mother of Jesus Christ. Is Mary really below all humans? She is blessed amongst women and all generations will call her Blessed. That is Biblical and no one can deny that.

That's right. The Scripture says, "you shall have no other gods before Me," so anything that is elevated to a place reserved for worshipping God is being placed equal to or ahead of God, which is wrong. Although Catholics don't worship Mary, if they did, they'd be wrong.

Catholics do not worship Mary. Whoever told you that was ignorant. The only difference between Catholicism and other Christian religions is, we believe the bread and wine at the last supper was the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Read the Bible, talk to someone who isn't stupid, and you'll find out what the Catholic religion is really all about.

Nobody worships the Virgin Mary. Catholics only worship God.

Worshiping any human is idol worship. There is just 1 God.

Catholics adore Mary, not worship here. It may sound like the same thing, but it isn't. Catholicism for Dummies does a really good job of explaining the difference.
