PS-I would agree with the previous responder. Its "barter" not "barder" that looks like a term for a poet.
and its "still" going on, not "steal" going on. Steal is to take without compensation. If you just mentioned bartering (aka trading) it's just confusing to imply theft just a few words later.

Al; it's called a Barter System and yes it is still going on in the US. Many of us in the Ozarks trade eggs and other home grown, organic food for services such as flat tire changing and oil changes. That is just one example. Many folks around here still make hand sewn quilts which are worth many hundreds of dollars. These quilts have been traded for goods and services, even BOATS!! Bartering is going to make a huge comeback, wait and see. Nana

Yes, but mostly in an underground sort of way

Craigslist and Freecycle web sites are just two examples

Also many "artisans" and tradespeople still barter or trade services
