Winnie the Pooh is so boring....EVERYONE uses that! as you can tell from everyone elses answers.....If you really want characters I like sesame street (they have baby sesame street characters)
But doing something more generic is sometimes nice, ocean theme, noahs ark, etc. seems like more of a baby nursery than cartoon characters.....believe me, you will get plenty of cartoon characters as your baby gets older and moves into a bigger bed.....then you wont be able to get away from them!!

Disney, Sponge Bob, Thomas the Tank Engine, Franklin. Get creative and paint the room yourself. My son had Noah's Ark with cartoon characters Mickey, Donald and Daffy, Tasmanian Devil, Bugs, some I can't remember the company they came from. Oh and Dr. Seuss.

I also think that Cartoon characters are a little over used on Baby rooms, I personally went with Jungle aminals, it has some neat colors that are not usually in a babies room so it makes it unique and i like that.

What does the baby seem interested in? A good bet though is classic Pooh or Mickey & Friends. Then nothing is genderized and you child can hope to grow up without ingrained social ideas of how his or her gender should act and what they should like. Too many little girls like Barbies because they are supposed to and boys like trucks because they are supposed to. Its sad. So I'd say just stay away from pink vs. blue and other such things.

I'm not a big fan of cartoon characters for babies. My 9 month old son's room has jungle animals in really neat colors...bright blue, orange, yellow, green, etc. I think when they get old enough to say "Mom, I want a Spongebob room!" then you go with what they want. Until then, his room will be what I like!

Honestly, cartoon characters bug me, because it introduces branding to babies and young children and the idea of corporations getting their claws into my little one at such an early age is creepy. I have an ocean theme in my baby boy's bedroom...no logos, no TV characters, just sea creatures, shells and antique beach postcards in frames. Just another perspective. : )
