I used to suffer from migraine's regularly and stopped eating certain foods such as cheese and chocolate for two years but it made no difference...then i started about three years ago taking homoeopathic medicine for hormone related problems and the headaches have stopped...it's worth looking into hormonal problems whatever your age...nurofen won't help a migraine, also stress can cause severe headaches which can be confused with mig..did you know there are different types of mig,,,like cluster mig where it can last for a week and you feel really ill , like sick and your whole system is upset....i hope you find some relief very soon...just remembered, have you tried migraleve? pink ones to stop nausea and yellow ones if pain persists, but with mig different people have different symtoms...hope this helps....will be thinking of you....

You might even be sensitive to some of the foods you are eating. My friend gets bad migraines from eating rich foods like cheese, I can get them if I've eaten too much chocolate...

You should be able to sense one coming on - even before it starts you get to know the signs - slightly blurred eyesight etc - take pills as soon as you do - don't wait for it to worsen.

And get some decent pills which only deal with migraine - not the stuff you're taking- no wonder they don't work!

Migraleve works for me, but not for everyone I know... I think it's the strongest stuff you can get without prescription. I get perhaps 3 migraines a month. I take 2 pink tablets as soon as I sense one coming on, and go and lie in a quiet room with a dark cloth over my eyes for an hour.

If this doesn't get rid of it - which is perhaps 1 in every 10 migraines, and they can last for 3 days... - I then have to take the yellow Migraleve - which is the last resort after the pink ones, and they make you a bit sleepy!

But with migraines as frequent as yours I'd recommend you go and talk to your doctor. They should be able to help get something stronger for you, or figure out if it's something you're eating or doing that's making it worse.

See your doctor and ask for an MRI to find the source of your headaches. Migraines can come from any number of things from allergies to collapsing veins. Don't panic just get tests done then your doctor will know how to treat you best.

When you first feel the headache coming on - I mean the very first sign, try a cup of black coffee. I heard that would help but not until many years after my own migraines stopped. Good luck.

You're taking the wrong kind of pills if they are truly migraines.

For over the counter pills you need to take Excedrin. Ibuprofen does not have caffeine, which is the major thing that fights migraine.

Ask your doctor to try you on Imitrex. These really work on Migraine but you need a prescription.

Painkillers are habitual and can be the cause of headaches. Are you on the pill, particularly microgynon 30 and the similar ones? That can cause them, as can dehydration. try to work out if you're allergic to anything, too.

And also, normal headache tablets have no effect on real migraine, if it feels better at all, it's getting better of it's own accord, you need special pills for migraine,

migranes and headaches are a sign that something is wrong.

my father had a migrane for about 5 years solid (no joke). When he quit his job, it went away after a few weeks.

Perhaps stress is affecting you? Throw the things out of your life that you don't need. If you still have migranes, check your diet and see if there is anything you have eaten (in the previous 48 hours) which could be giving migranes? If you cut them out and you are STILL having regular migranes, then who can tell? it could be anything from high blood pressure to a brain tumor...

I'd suggest tackling it from 2 perspectives.

1. go see a professional specialist (like a doctor, frinstance)
2. simplify your life & take care of yourself.

If this isn't the answer, then it can't hurt, can it?

Yoga, yoga, yoga.

Seriously. There was even an article about migraine headaches and the yoga poses that help them in a recent Yoga Journal article. I have a friends who was getting them all the time and she took a really basic yoga class and they've already decreased significantly.

I'll bet you could find the article at yogajournal.com

I dont know why you are getting migrains but I started getting severe migrains last year and my fiancee told me about imagrain/sumatriptan..I know you said you did not want to know about tablets but the ones your using are obviously the wrong ones for you....you do need to see your gp to get these as they will cost you over £26 over the counter...DO NOT drink coffee try and stay away from dairy products and sugar..DO drink plenty of water as if trying to dilute the migrain..I hate taking pills as I have hypermobility syndrome so have to take alot of them so I know what you mean when you say not to give you advice on pills ...the only ones that do work are for my migrains .so have left the name for you to ask your gp

If you are getting migraines that frequently, you should see your doctor. He can give you something to prevent them completely so you don't have to be popping pain pills 5 times a day.
