"Labor creates all wealth" so says the National Lawyers Guild. "Sweat equity" is the term Habitat for Humanity uses, and I think that says it well. One of the main causes of poverty in general is the poor state of education in America. On-the-job training in junior and senior high school would go far to help disadvantaged groups learn what is expected from them in a work situation. So does volunteering.

Love your reference to "sweat equity " -- check out Habitat for Humanity as an organization that seeks to "end poverty housing in the entire world" -- their program, principles have ended poverty housing in one US city and led to construction of more than 100,000 homes worldwide -- once a family has decent shelter that they own their rise from poverty is greatly helped

So good to know people care about this kind of thing -- keep it up!!

Really, there is no way to end poverty. Poverty is a state of mind, usually caused by several factors; including apathy, lack of interest, lack of education, lack of initiative, and expecting to get something for nothing. Political Action will not cure it. Willingness to take charge of your life will.

Poverty is a condition inherent in a capitalist society such as ours. There is no way to "cure" it without removing capitalism and accumulation of wealth from the equation.

Good question. Idealistic, but a good question.

Keep on thinking!
