Yes. It is possible for your head to pop. You could have a brain aneurysm. A brain (cerebral) aneurysm is a bulging, weak area in the wall of an artery that supplies blood to the brain. In most cases, a brain aneurysm causes no symptoms and goes unnoticed. In rare cases, the brain aneurysm ruptures (explodes), releasing blood into the skull and causing a stroke. I knew a young girl (11) that all of a sudden complained about a severe headache. She had an aneurysm and died within the hour. Her parents did not see it coming.

Your head would never literally pop, of course, but there are a few kinds of headaches that can make it feel that way...one of which is extremely serious. This is often called a "thunderclap" headache, and often precedes or immediately follows a hemorrhagic stroke (like from a burst artery or a ruptured aneurysm in the brain).

The other kinds of headaches that may precipitate that feeling are vascular headaches (like migraine--I know, I have plenty of experience with them..) and pressure headaches (which come about when the pressure inside the brain is increased by some pathological process). The strange thing is that with the exception of the first type, most of the time potentially serious problems in the head do not necessarily produce the worst headaches. The clue is in the related symptoms and their progression, rather than in the degree of pain.

Such a headache requires attention. It may need surgical intervention as ballooning blood vessels (aneurysms) may cause splitting headaches. Poor nutrition can also be a cause of blinding headaches....but the best guide is a physician. Migraine headaches are associated with many different causes...stress, etc. but many good treatments and drugs can relieve this. A physician is the best answer. He can examine the different possible causes and treat them.

No. Sometimes I have felt like it would, and I have gone to ER for a shot. An artery can break and you can die, but the head does not pop.
