I think that it is possible it can happen just like I think it is possible that one day a female will be president but I don't think it's on the table soon. It will take a major shift in the current mind-state of Americans to put in either a female or an atheist in the top spot.

Yes. There is no Constitutional prohibiton on what religious belief (and make no mistake, atheism IS a religion by its tenet "there is no God") the President is allowed to have, but would a major political party choose him or her as their candidate? In real-life politics, the goal is not necessarily to be the smartest or the most glamorous but the most electable (e.g., personally appealing) to the largest number of people. A candidate's belief system will inevitably creep into their professional conduct, no matter how openly they try to deny it.

Can they? Sure. Will they anytime in the near future? Unlikely. People don't vote for the right reasons. They don't vote because a candidate supports their views, they vote because they belong to the same party, or because they're more handsome, or funnier, or they're the same religion.... Of course it's entirely possible that some of our presidents have been atheist and just lied about their religion. I go so far as to even say it's likely.

I believe so. The people that wouldn't vote for an atheist would be balanced out by people that would see it as an equalizing measure. In today's world, I don't see religion being as much of an issue when it comes to politics. Morality, however, is a key component.

I think it would depend on his/her attitude. I think no matter what religion you are, as long as you care about the country and understand that everyone has DIFFERENT views and standards and you just try to honestly do what will be ethical and equal for the country that it would be just fine.

Just like a Christian getting up there and acting like it's wrong to do anything out of that religion, it would be wrong for an Atheist to get up there and make sure that no decisions are based on our country's religious history, you know?

I don't see why not. As it's a law to seperate religion and politics. Your religion alone will not disallow the possibility of you being president though no doubt for the communities that are strongly religious would probably have a hard time earning those votes.

Because the majority of dumb Americans in this country would never vote for an atheist - they're too busy using religion as a crutch to actually think for themselves!

Probably not. Have you seen our Prez.s, they are all white, over 35 and all believe in Family, God, and Country. I think that if we are a free nation then we should have leaders from all walks of life but most people stick with what is familiar and they won't step out of that box.

Sure, the only qualifications is that they have to be 35 or older and have been born in the United States (so not Ahnald)

I don't think they will get the Christian Vote, and since the Holy Spirit lives within many of us, I doubt we'd ever allow that to happen.
