We have a pretty big yard. About 1 acre. It is level in front and slopes down to a creek. (which is currently rising rapidly- that's a different question)The puppy will play for a while then take off. My husband ddoesn't want a physical fence nor a run. I am not sure an electric fence will work. I do walk her. Do you have any ideas?

You seem like a reasonable dog owner. Keep wheedling your husband, ask him WHY he doesn't want a physical fence, and then try and see if you can find a way to get around/fix the reasons why he doesn't want one, if you know what I mean. Also, I wouldn't trust an electric fence.

We had a pretty big yard when I was young, and we had 3 dogs. I definitely suggest the electric fence. There are kinds you can get that if the dog gets about a foot or two from the fence their collar will start beeping. The beeping will usually tell them to turn back around, at least it worked for my dogs. If they ignore the beeping (which is hard), they'll get shocked. If you're going to walk her outside of the yard, don't forget to take the collar off! Hope this helped.

I don’t see the point to an electrical fence that just hurts you puppy, you really need to apply training in teaching your puppy to come or what NO means you have to set boundaries, of course you don’t want anything bad to happen to your puppy when he is running around like crazy, but a fence though is still a good idea, if your husband still doesn’t want to then try to convince him for a play pen at least, tell him that the puppy deserves to have fun too.

ask him if he cares about the puppy, puppy's need to know there boundaries, u could try working with the puppy about running off but the odds are its safer and easy-er to give them a boundary fence, that way it wont get hit by a car or killed by wild animals or kill others stuff. and u wont get fined for dog at large. and it will still have the whole yard to run in.

Well, I'd say to *tell* him you need one and then *get* one, but that's just me. I was fortunate that my husband agreed that we needed one. *heh*

Maybe it's a better question for a psychologist rather than dog people. Now, I could probably tell you how to convince your dog that you need a fence... *lol* Seriously, though, good luck to you. I can tell you that the fence we put up is the best thing we ever did, not only for our herd of dogs, but also for our kids. It has saved their lives dozens of times...

If your husband isn't covinced then I suggest you can make a large playpen for her.

Tell him if he doesn't, you will.
