If you look at an adult worm closely, you will notice a band of white slime. This is called the saddle, the place that the eggs are stored. When the eggs in the egg tube are ready, the worm slips backwards out of the saddle. As the saddle passes the egg tube, six eggs are dropped in. As the saddle passes over the worm's head, the ends close up and make a tiny lemon-shaped cocoon with the eggs inside. This cocoon protects them until they hatch out as very small but fully developed worms.

earthworm are hermaphrodite = bisexual. they have male and female reproductive organs. but they also have a place for another male's sperm. so the erthworm has 2 sets of male genes and 1 set of female. it will receive the other male gene from other worm and hav that frtilize the ovaries that are in segment called the clitellum. it will also give its sperm to another worm and that worm's ovaries will be fertilized by his sprem.
on the underside of the worm there are 4 openings for foreign sperm sacs below that there r 2 openings for sperm ducts which connects to the clitellum via external groove. so the sperm travels outside in these grooves to the clitellum to fetilise the ovaries.
i know its long and quite complicated

Earthworms are hermaphrodites, but they can't fertilize their own eggs. 2 worms spead sperm over each other through testes glands. Then the worms form a cocoon over itself with the eggs inside. The cocoon comes off and the young worms hatch.

worms are basically hermaphrodites. Essentially, they have sex with themselves. Don't ask how I know...I just do.
