my cat is fine except I've got my house on the market and one of the realtor idiots closed the bedroom door, locking my cat in my bedroom, and as a result there is a very foul odor coming from my bed which I assume is cat urine. the smell went through the mattress, the sheets, even down through the mattress. Is there any way of getting rid of the smell?

There are several products made specifically for this problem. Nature's Miracle and Simple Solution are the names of two. Because this is a mattress, you may need to soak the product into the mattress for several treatments. Follow up with Febreze.

My cat did the same thing. You have to get rid of it, or they will keep doing the same thing because the smell is there. We actually now keep bedroom doors closed in rooms we are not in, to prevent this type of behavior. Next time buy a waterproof mattress protector from Wal-Mart, they are like $20 or so for a king, and it will help protect your mattress. I would go ahead and buy those for the beds your cat hasn't peed on. I did a lot of investiagting about this behavior, and when they go potty on your bed, it's them saying they miss you, and this sounds really silly and I think it is, but it is supposed to be the equivalent of them sending you flowers. I hope this helps you understand what is going on.

I had a cat do this once when it was sick. And no, the cat won't necessarily repeat the habit, escpecially since this was not an ordinary situation.

I washed the spot with water, baking soda and a towel several times. After letting it dry, I sprayed it with Febreeze (the kind for fabrics) a couple of times a day for a week and the smell is finally gone.

change everything. Cats' urine is a way to mark their territories, that's what the smell's for. Buy a new mattress and sheets :)

Sorry, cat urine is one smell that is impossible to get rid of. I had a $1200 couch I had to take to the dump because my cat peed on it! Lesson learned the hard way!

That smell does not come out of anything completely. Good luck. Try a pet store.

You can wash the sheets, but you'll have to chuck the mattress. Buy a new mattress and bill it to the Realtor. Even when they are showing a house, I've never heard of them closing anything but the front and back doors.

Wash it with tomato juice, dry, flip the mattress over and put charcoal (in a breathable bag) between the mattress and box springs until the odor is gone. good luck! The tomato juice works but will be difficult to remove the deep stuff. The charcoal will absorb the odor as will baking soda.
