widespread practice of infanticide in the Roman Empire: The mother would lay a newborn outside the home. If the father accepted responsibility for the child, he would pick it up and bring it into the house; otherwise, the child would be abandoned to die. The early Christian movement was known for its practice of scooping up such abandoned newborns and adopting them into their families. Some Roman Pagans accused the Christians of collecting newborns in order to engage in rituals of human sacrifice.

Well this was started in Genisis, before Christianity with Moses being saved by and egyptian woman, and later became the deliverer of the Hebrew Slaves.
I was just reading the other day, this still goes on, In less civilized third world countries, I was reading in our Bible Study book, that thier culture throws the newborn babies in the river if they are born with any teeth or a tooth, they think the baby is a demon.
There is another culture a ways from them that calls itself the graveyard where mothers can take there babies to where they will hide them, a man who was saved grew up and was trained and now works for a missionary hospital there because he feels blessed, being saved, as did moses, and wants to devote his life to helping other people as well, through God.

I'm sorry I don't have the books left from theology, but yes, it is supposedly how some of the first orphanages came about, especially when the Roman kings would order mass murders and parents would take their children to "pagan" cities and abandon them as opposed to let the Romans kill them, and the Christians would take in the Jewish children and raise them. you might check out cc.christiancourses.com to see if they have a short study (they are free) on early church history.

Never heard of that not even in the Bible, but I'm sure that if a person christian or not seen a child thrown out of a window they would save them. Wouldn't you?

Read Eusebius' "Ecclesiastical (or Church) History".Eusebius was a Christian historian in the early 4th century and has written all that was happening in and around the church from the time of the Apostles to the time of Emperor Constantine. You can easily find it on line. Here's a link for you. . . .

They do that now. It's not as well known, but it happens. Besides many events such as that weren't considered worthy of historical reference because the event were considered so minor, so I doubt you'll find many if any documented cases.
