smart athiests... (ones that don't force their athiesm on others) might actually be BEST suited for president..
personally i am an athiest, but i wholeheartedly support whomever's religion if they feel that it answers their questions/gives them guidance.. and because athiests don't subscribe to any religion perhaps they can finally treat everyone in the US as equal... and not base policy on specific religios leanings...
that said, there are tons of folks who would never vote for an athiest... so there prob. already have been athiest presidents and there will be many more... they just won't talk about it...

Since the qualifications for the US Presidency are: being a natural born citizen, being age 35 or older and residing inside the US borders for 14 years then yes if they meet all this they certainly have the right to become president. No where in the qualifications does it have a mandate about religious background.

Yes!! And not only that, I think it would be awesome to have an atheistic president. I am sick of these christian presidents pushing their right-wing agendas. At least an atheist would not be influenced by religion. I believe they would make a far better leader, since God (religion) has no place whatsoever in politics.

The Consitution provides the right.
Freedom of thought provides the right.
Would they make good leader? Yes. They have a greater belief in the importance of being responsible for actions and of taking action instead of relying on a deity to take care of things in the end. They would be more concerned for people here and now.

The funny thing is that you're being more closed minded than any Athiest I've ever met... Why would I want someone like that to be President?

I would hope not. The USA was founded on theistic freedom, but atheism is the absence of theism (the belief in the existence of deities). People lacking belief in what founded our nation should not govern it.

Yes, of course they do. It would be a smart way to insure the seperation from religion and government. As long as they respect other's beliefs, and have strong good morals, why not?
