Because this isn't the "only people who agree with me allowed" section? If you can't handle someone disagreeing with you, then why can't YOU just leave this section?

Leave this room? You mean the Religion and Spirituality section of Yahoo Answers? Everyone has the right to speak their mind, whether you like what they're saying or not.

My answer to your question is pretty simple. I find that most postings about religion and so called spirituality are actually challeges to non believers. Questions such as " Why don't non Christians just open the bible and see the truth?" practiclly beg for wise a** answers.

Remember, the format is Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo rant and everyone else shut up.

Becuase this is the section about religion and spirituality. I'm an atheist but I still have some interest in religion esp since I used to be a Christian.

Are you trying to censor views of spirituality you don't agree in? I thought this place was for open discussion.

Why do you insist that they're "non-believers" just because they don't believe the same thing you do? I personally believe that Jesus was a great prophet and teacher, but so were Mohammed, Buddha, Confusius, Gandhi, and many others. Don't assume that just because a person who doesn't believe that your way is the only way is a "heathen" or "non-believer." That's too narrow-minded. After all, didn't Jesus speak to all who came to him from all walks of life? Why should we exclude others when He didn't?

What I think of religion?

When you’re born, through genetics you have predisposition to feel more or less Cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is the feeling you get whenever you’re your ideas and opinions are in contrast with that of another person’s or when your actions don’t match your beliefs. If not dealt with it turns into physical headaches and stress. This dissonance functions by making us come together and communicate for survival. If you look around you’ll see that like attracts like. People are attracted to other people with similar ideas because it is reaffirming and makes us feel good by reducing that dissonance. It makes us feel normal. You’re more likely to feel you are correct when other people agree. People will usually use the easiest method to reduce dissonance. Some people, join clubs, teams, or go to church with other people who have similar beliefs. Some people exercise and others use drugs like Tylenol or alcohol. A sense of normlessness is called anomie and can lead to depression and even suicide. In those like groups the ideas polarize and become more extreme while their members become more confident in their conclusions. Middle Eastern religious extremists use religion to enable them to become suicide bombers. If you look at the histories of religion you see a pattern. Each religion helps their society deal with their unique life situation for better or worse. The Egyptians had their sun god ect. Therefore, trying to change someone’s religion can make them less adapt to the issues they face in their life. Unfortunately the function of religion is not to show us the truth but to relieve the dissonance by giving us a set of beliefs that tell us what is normal.

It's natural to feel that way, but when we think about it, the presence of non-believers provides a golden opportunity for evangelization and conversion.

If even one of the non-believers on this board ends up accepting Christ, it will have been worth it.

It's also good for us to have our faith challenged -- it "keeps us on our toes" and that can only deepen our faith even more.

Besides, if we try to shoo non-believers away too strongly, they'll get the false impression that we are not up to the task of defending our faith.

They'll think that we'd rather they go away because we're not capable of making our case adequately.

We don't want them to think that way about us, because it's not true.

Well I hate to break it to ya, but this section is religion & Spirituality. NOT christianity.
There are many different belief systems out there sweetie, not just one. Perhaps you want to go look for a nice safe christian forum where those nasty pagans, atheists etc etc etc won't come up and correct you when you post discriminatory nonsense like this.

This "room" isn't reserved for any one person or group. Everyone is free to answer. Actually you will find that more people get these answers from the home page. Quit trying to discriminate against people who don't agree with you.

Because you put your two cents in first? If you don't want to hear how other people feel, don't tell them how you feel in the first place.
