You ask God to guide you in what, where, and when and He'll provide you the right things at the right time. I'd say you've made the first step - knowing you're a Christian. Now confess you're backsliden state to Jesus, and let him unbackslide you - and don't worry what people say - only worry about the one who can steal the soul - and you don't even have to worry about Satan now either - so go forward with boldness of faith, not ashamed, God has cast that aside and wiped your heart clean. If the church you first attend doesn't seem to be where the Spirit is leading you, you will know and go to another one until you find the one that you know within your heart is the right one. That's all any of us can do, is rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Welcome back, Brother! It's always good to have a wandering sheep get back to the fold!

1--to be born again you must admit you are a sinner(Romans 3:23), then you must believe that JESUS is the Son of God and that he died for your sins(John 3:16) , then confess Him that He is your Lord and Savior(Romans 10:9-10). After that you keep or give up whatever the Lord tells you. To know what the Lord wants for you and from you, you need to find a church or a group of Bible believing Christians ,and start reading God's Word. You get to know someone by spending time with them and it works the same way with the Lord. The 10 commandments are great as are God's Old testament dietary laws(I personally have started to follow these, I miss bacon and shrimp a little) but we are free from the law. The laws were to show us how much we needed JESUS to save us.
2--I know nothing about your village but most Christians are happy when someone is saved and will welcome you
3--I am old and boring but I don't think that is true of everyone who is a Christian but maybe you will spice things up
4--start by telling 1 person and then those who love you and as you grow strong in your faith the Lord will give you opportunities to tell others

Hi, I don't live too far from you, I'm in Dorset. If you are looking for a friendly, vibrant church to attend, I can recommend any from the NewFrontiers family, they teach the Bible, and it's really lively worship, also I lot of younger people go. It's never dull!
You will be encouraged to learn that you don't HAVE to give up stuff, just as you get to know Jesus better you may feel less like living in the old way you do now. It's as hard or as easy as you want it to be.
Will give you the link to newfrontiers website. I see in a quick browse they have a church in Alton, might be others, have a look and good luck!

First, Ally, relax...quiet yourself & listen...do this often & the rest will come. You don't need commandments, because these are man-created needs, not God needs...you don't have to give up anything but perhaps not being nice.
Never feel embarrased about your seeking to grow, especially in your spirituality...be happy with yourself & you'll be just fine. If you'd like to participate in a like-minded group, and want to go to church, experiment...go to a different ones in your area and see how you feel...follow your heart...there are really sweet people of many religious backgrounds, and many with no particular belief system. I love the promise "Seek & you shall find...." it works!
One set of books that is just wonderful are Neale Donald Walsh's "Conversations with God" very common sense & heart-felt. Then take it from there...Good Journey!!!

its not all boring people that go to church........
i'm not. to be quite honest i am not sure what is in hampshire.......you don't have to be embarrassed about what you don't know.....In fact if they make fun of you (in an actual rude manner and not just as a joke to try to get along with you) or if they criticize you for what you don't know I think you should find another church. It really is a good place to be though and can help you to feel better. It should not take you ages to get in with the "crowd" but you have to join in...participate....make your self available.

You dont have to change anything, God will do it for you, thats the Holy Spirits job, He takes all the bad stuff away and prunes the good to make you strong and good. If you try to change yourself in your own strength, you will just slip back into your old ways, so just trust him to change you, dont worry about the stupid comments, because the message of the cross sounds foolish to those that are perishing.
Not everyone is an old duffer at church, there are loads of them with large youth groups who go to gigs etc, there are lots of nice girls too, and these will not sleep around on you.
I will pray for you bro, and welcome to the family.

If you are a non-practicing Christian, you are not a Christian. If you believe that Jesus is the son of God, that he died for our sins and that the Bible is the true word of God, by choosing not to practice you are directly disobeying God's will. You have made the choice that you can't be bothered to do what God asks. So why do you think He will let you in to Heaven when you die?

Lets just clarify. You say you are a Christian that never practised. But how do you practice if you don't know what to do? First, thank God for the answers, then BELEIVE he will give them to you. They key to everything of god is believing. It is God's will for us to believe. What do you need to give up? You're old ways, anything that God tells you is against his word. Not because he likes to control you, but because these things would all be harmful to you in some way. It's common sense we use in our walk. The 10 commandments? Christ already fulfilled those, we are saved by God's divine unmerited favour (Grace) not by works. You can't earn God's love, you already have it. All you've got to learn to do is love him properly. Even God can't get 'in with the crowd' so don't worry you are not alone. Better to be 'in with God' anyway, then he will lead you to others to spend time with. Got no idea what people are like that go to church. I know what it is like to be part of the 'church'. The word church in the original language means 'called out' and refers to people of a group, not a building or religion. Anyway that loves God and accepts Christ as Lord (Romans 10:9 and 10) is born of god and belongs to the 'Church'. They can be any age, sex, race, etc. God is no respecter of person.
And please don't be embarrased. God never judges. He loves. If you can love your human parents, you can love God. Are you embarrased to show love for your human parents? Then don't be embarrased of your love for God.
You tell people to 'move out of the way, I'm a son of God and I love God.' And trust me, they'll get the point. (Just kidding). Say what you want, as long as you speak out of love and don't say anything to offend people, they won't mind. And if they do, well, move on to someone who doesn't.

Don't listen to people who tell you the coulda, shoulda, woulda's of what you should believe. It's entirely up to you as to what you should do. Jesus tell us that His greatest command is to Love God, love others as you would yourself. If you loved God you wouldn't commit the Ten Commandments right? Seek out God and He will show you. Let your love for God be your governor and the rest will fall into place.
