First of all you are saying to yourself a Vietnamese BABY, babies can’t talk of course so when the baby is starting to talk you are going to speak English to the baby and that is what the baby is going to speak, now if the child is a little older maybe 1-3 it’s different but little kids are way more agile to learn another language.
Just speak to the baby English, and if you want you could learn Vietnamese too. =)
Good Luck with your baby!

Umm, he will learn English if he is raised by you, but you had better learn Vietnamese. It bothers me to no avail when Americans adopt kids from another country/culture and don't do everything in their power to uphold that child's heritage. It's also horrible when the younger generation refuses to learn of their own culture. So, yep, start learning Vietnamese now.

you should start learning Vietnamese immediately! Don't listen to all of those others.....that baby will have a full understanding of his native language. He will be able to teach you the more advanced concepts of his language, but you MUST learn the basics now. Please do not show up to the orphanage and expect that infant to bond with you if you can't express yourself in Vietnamese. Best of luck to you.

If you adopt a child who is only a month or two old it probably will not have learnt its native language yet, an older child will still learn any language that is spoken to it by its carers but it may also remember its mother tongue. Learning some would help you explain its roots to the child later on though

If it's a baby, they will grow up learning whatever language regularly spoken around them. Your baby will know English if you teach it English, you have nothing to worry about.
