Doing that is resistance traing for abs. To lose weight see site below under exercise to see that you should also build muscle in chest, back, arms and legs.

Sit-ups will tone the muscles but not eliminate the fat. Only dieting and good-old cardio exercise (running, biking, swimming, etc.) make you lose fat. On the other hand, the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn at rest or during any exercise, so building your abs, or any muscles, will help you to lose weight indirectly. Try limiting your simple carbs and increasing your cardio as much as possible.

Unfortunately, 30-50 pounds over the summer is probably not a reasonable goal unless you are severely overweight. Normally, you can lose 1-2 pounds of fat per week healthfully. And who wants to loose all of that weight only to feel sick and not enjoy it! Also remember, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you build muscle, your physique may change dramatically without your weight going down significantly.

Best of luck in your endeavors!

Lmfao @ you. 500 situps will not only damage your abs, it won't make you lose weight. Have fun not eating anything, as your body depletes all your muscle before it starts depleting fat when you're starving. If you don't sleep & don't eat and do 500 situps a day, you'll die.

yes you will lose your tummy fat - 100 situps before you sleep and you will see results when you wake up - do that everyday for just a week and you WILL SEE RESULTS ..but you have to do it everyday and don't slack off or miss any day - your tummy will be nice and toned within a week =) good luck with that part - as for wanting to lose weight in other areas, just watch what you eat - i am trying out the salad diet where i eat only salads (but an occassional brownie/cake) and i actually got thinner cuz alot of people have commented on that - and it was only within a 2 week period!

if you need to loose 50 lbs and you're that obsessed with it then you need to run about 6 miles a day. You'll feel great and look good. At first start small and then the rest is just a mind game. Walk a lot too.

No, situps will tone your stomach muscles. The only thing that makes you lose weight is if you take in less calories than you burn. You need to watch what you eat, and do some cardio/aerobic excercise.

if you only do situps--you'll actually gain weight--since you are gaining abdominal muscles (muscle weighs more than fat)

if you want to lose weight--you must do cardiovascular exercise--exercise that elevates your heart rate--for example running, bicyling, jumprope, basketball, etc

you cannot spot reduce--so if you want to reduce your belly--you must lose fat overall

my best advice for you to lose weight is start doing cardio 4-5 times a week--for 30 minutes
and you'll break a lot of sweat--you'll lose fat doing so--and your abs will show

if you combine both weight training and cardio together--you'll lose bad weight and gain good weight--lose fat, gain muscle--and the added muscle mass will actually allow you to burn more calories in a day than you are currently burning (since muscle burns a lot of calories simply by maintaining it)

hope that helps
