You're definitely not the only one who thinks that way -- but you're still wrong. In my humble opinion, that is.

People who control others typically do it for some immediate ulterior motive -- money, power, whatever.

But what ulterior motive do religious authorities have to "control" people through religious teachings?

I'm Catholic, and your question makes me wonder -- if the Church hierarchy is all about "controlling people," why do they do it?

Obviously they don't do it for money -- they don't get paid a lot of it. Even bishops, considering that their amount of responsibility rivals that of the head of any large corporation, receive relatively little in the way of material compensation.

And obviously they don't do it for the power -- they know that people can and often do ignore them.

So why do they do it? Why do they propagate religious teachings, without any personal ulterior motive for "controlling" people through them?

The answer: because they are propagating the Truth! Which is their job.

Ive said for a long time now, that religion is just another system of control. I have no need for religion in my life. I am the only one who controls my life, my beliefs and my choices.

No you are not. In some cases it is. Religion is the essence of control. It teaches people which then lays the foundation of control. When someone makes a decision, they must think, am i doing the right thing. This means in essence, that they have been influenced.

No, I think Karl Marx had that idea long ago.

He said "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people."

And Bertrand Russel went further: "Religion in any shape or form," he wrote, "is regarded as pernicious and deliberate falsehood, spread and encouraged by rulers and clerics in their own interests, since it is easier to control over the ignorant."

no you are not, eventually every one will believe it. and avoid religions that promise life after death. see how something caused my life.

draw bodies for the h and n in heaven and see that its my fathers funeral. And sum up god and its h sum up god jehovah and its e so god is first in heaven and god jehovah is second. so h is?

so further proof its about Me is my grandfather had a missing arm parts.

read your bible all thoughts cease when dead. so you might have a funeral but you will never know cause you can't dream even. and yes animals do have souls if still alive cause all living things were said to have souls. So if heaven is burying a parent then hell is burying a child. And thats what abraham would have had to do to join hell is one guess.

the story of the Lamb SLAIN is Larri b SL A I IV as per Todd's arm of IIII I . And Todd is Larry's second name. And its spelled Larri so the italians would understand it. cause they have no y in their alphabet.

although the church says the Lamb is Jesus and the Bride is the church thats mistaken. cause church pertaining to the Bride is pronounced see her see h and h is described MARCH APRIL MAY. And H A P(DI. Stitched together)RIL M(IVIstitched together) AY is reading forward from H. Reverse says the same thing.

Thus forget the church its not the bride of this Lamb SLAIN who they try to get you to hate. So any money that you think you give to the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS who was the Lamb SLAIN does not ever reach Him as either Jesus or TODD cause Jesus is dead and Larry Todd S. will probably soon join him cause the only KINGDOM they would ever give me is probably in that eternal ern.

so if the imposed religion is christianity they you can't hurt or afflict Me with anything cause I am a fatherless orphan. So i can hate the we are all married to the church crap all i want. Cause they promise you eternal life or reward in heaven which is a big lie to say your going to get dead eventually.

you can email me if you dare. I say that because evil=angel

No, but you should look past the church. I believe that churches and organized religion is a way of controlling people but religion is something greater.

Yes, you are. Government is a way to control people. Oh, I take it back. Karl Marx thought religion was a way for goverments to control people, so maybe you are half right.

Yes, I have always thought it was a way for some people to control other people. I have seen people do things they even know are not right to be doing, simply because their "religious leader" told them to do it.

of course its a way to control people. that doesnt make it a bad thing. if the only thing keeping a man from murdering another man is the fear of divine punishment, who is going to argue against it? law is a way of controlling people. so is the media. so is nationalism. there are good and bad points in all of them.

Many societies have no religion and their governments are able to exercise control quite well. China comes to mind.
