What is the average age of a baby starting to crawl? I'm asking because of my granddaughter and I can't remember that far back. When my kids were little, they were supposed to sleep on their tummies and now they have to sleep on their backs. I think since our kids slept on their tummies way back they had more chance to pull up on their knees in the crib when they woke up. She's not crawling yet === not that I'm worried as all kids are different and she's smart. I'm just curious. When did your child start to crawl?

My son crawled at 8 months and walked at 1 year. There is a good milestone chart at http://www.babycenter.com/general/baby/babydevelopment/6476.html
That link is for 0-6 months, but if you look on the page, they have more charts through at least 3 years.

My eldest never really got to crawling. Our first apartment was so small that she could roll from one end of the living room into the kitchen with 5 rolls ! We moved when she was about 9 months and that's when she was forced to crawl to get somewhere. She wasn't very adept at it. She started cruising pretty soon.

My son was on his hands and knees around 6 months. He did everything in spurts, so, it was the hands and knees, rocking and rolling all in one weekend.

I don't think my youngest had a chance to really crawl. I was always dragging her around here and there because of the two oldest. She did a fast cruising stage before she started RUNNING after her siblings just before her first birthday.

Every baby is different. It can depend on the weight of the baby. Mine is just 7 months and only rolls. She is pretty chunky. Bigger babys tend to do things a little later than others. Also, some babys don't crawl at all they go straight to walking. I wouldn't be worried. She will do it on her own time. Just encourage her and let her do her thing.

don't be ashamed. all kids are different, my first child crawled at 8 months, my second child crawled at 6 months, and my third child never crawled and went straight up to walking about 12 months... all my kids walked when they were 1 year old....good luck.
