If you are receiving a "back child support check"-- it is to pay for things your mom has already provided for you. It's up to your mom to decide.

Will this child support check even cover a down payment? I'm sure there are ways to justify spending the money on a car, but being that you're 15...I wouldn't buy a car until you get a job. Who's gonna pay for the insurance and gas if you get a car? I'd save it until you got a job that could cover car insurance and gas to get places. Plus, you're 15, in most states you have to be 16 to get a car. Don't put the cart before the horse....get a job first, then get a car with the check.

That really doesn't teach responsibility. If your mom can support you in the ways that count without the check (and you should really talk that over with her) then the responsible thing to do is to put the support away for college and find another way to fix your car up, like working summers or doing odd jobs or even earning some of that support money by helping your mom.

Seeing as you will be going to college soon that money should be used for more practical things. Like college savings and stuff like that. I do believe that it does matter, child support is take make sure that you do not do without and that you are given a strong foundation to continue on through life with. I do not think that the money should be spent on a car rather put away for a rainy day or a college fund.

Technically the money is to support the kids. I was 15 and I was able to get a part time job as a busboy at a restaurant so you might want to look into it. I would only use the money on the vehicle to keep it running so as to get you from point A to B but if, just my opinion, you use the money to deck out the vehicle and make it look like eye candy, that would be wrong. Use it for its intended purpose. To feed, clothe, and any means necessary (legally that is) to make money. Best wishes.

I would say yes but I would buy a car cash out do not get in to payments that might be hard if you are going to count on a child support check to pay for it. So think about it before you react.

The child support money is to support you. Some parents are in a good situation that they can allow children to do with whatever they want with the child support check. If she has extra monies around to give you, count it a blessing, but please, do not demand the money. It is to be used to support you; roof over your head, in your case - a car, food and water.

Well, you can buy the car and feel no guilt but with the rest of the checks you might want to save for general things you need like clothes or something you use that the rest of your family doesn't.

If you can't get a job, you shouldn't have a car. You can babysit, mow lawns, shovel snow...take on some extra chores. That child support should be used to give you the necessities. Having a car at your age is not a necessity...especially since you can't do it on your own.
