They are the children of a woman I was close friends with 10 years ago. We are connecting again and when I meet her kids I want to give them something (not too extravagant). Help!!

I have twin girls 3.5 yrs olds and they love a doll with a blanket (they always have to tuck her in for naps). OR, they have this barbie looking mermaid (Walmart) that she can take into the tub with her and she changes colors - no outfits, just the doll with molded tail / bra. At 3 1/2, she is a little too young for a barbie (not coordinated enough yet). They also love tea parties - you can get an inexpensive set at Walmart or dollar stores.

All boys LOVE trucks / cars - especially @ 1 1/2 - just make sure they are colorful and noisy (no I am not kidding about the noise).

u can ask ur friend what the 3 year old likes, what she collects strawberry short cake is in for little girls, bratz, hello kitty, get her pajamas u can never have enough of that, or make her a gift bag full of this and that for her age colring books etc for the 1/12 something musical and if it gets to hard for u to decide get her a gift card to toys r us or kaybee, or any other store that has toys, and a nice card to go w/ it, good luck

a Barbie doll for her and a small car for him. They are not too extravagant and will keep the tykes busy while you and their mom catch up.
However, don't give them the impression you will be bringing gifts at each meeting or you will get yourself in trouble.

I'd say a small doll for the girl and since the boy is quite young, maybe a stuffed animal or a big soft car, Little Tykes makes great "chunky" cars for small boys.

All children love books. They're educational, they won't add to the clutter around your friend's house, and they're fun and exciting.

The girl is a good age for Dr. Seuss. I bet you have a couple favourites from when you were little. "What was I Scared of?" and "One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish" are great for her age.

And the boy is a great age for cardboard books. He can turn the pages, and chew on them, and they won't rip. My children's favourite at that age was "Happy Baby Colors" available at Wal-Mart. The pictures are bright and fun. As he grows, he'll learn the names of many nouns and the names of the colors.

well i don't think that the 1 1/2 year old can play with boy toys yet. it would be easy to go to they baby toys section and on the boxes they usually say from what range of age the toy is good for.

McDonald's gift cards have worked well for me. $5-10 placed on a McD. card can be used by the youngster (w/ advice from a caregiver or parent) to purchase something for a meal or a treat.

I definitely agree with the recommendation to get books. My favorites are Usborne. My girls love the touchy feely books, farmyard tales, and the princess books. There are pirate ones the boy might be interested in.

Books are definitely the way to go, and they usually are organized by age. Or you could go with a children's author like Eric Carle or Dr. Suess
