No way NYC!!!! !!!The subway isn't very big at all, it's really dark and depressing and the buses take forever to get anywhere in Manhattan because of darn traffic lights every 10 seconds. London is the only city I've been where public transport is everywhere and there is no need at all to have a car, but it is very crowded.
So my vote goes to Stockholm. Everything is spotless, everything works, lots of it involves little boats and everyone is lovely. But of course London taxi drivers are far and away the best in the world, having studied for an average of three years to qualify - no contest.

New York??? Ha Ha. You are all funny. The trains are a bit old for my taste. It sems you have never been to Asia. Singapore is excellent and one of the most modern systems in the world. Trains are air conditioned and clean.
Bangkok is still a bit limited in terms of subway and skytrain but the train systems they sue are the newest and best in the world (the subway just opened 1 year ago so is extremely new).
If you only go for which system is the most extensive, then Paris is excellent.
Berln is excellent too, having 24 hour buses, huge subway system and also a big street ram system. To every destination there are always a lot of different ways you can choose fromn.
In the states I would also agree that San Francisco is very good.

i traval quite a bit so i feel that Singapore has the most convenient and cheapest public transport ever and for sure you won't get lost. The most complicating public transport would be Japan or Europe...massive but great fun travelling on them..

Hands down... the Metro in Washington, DC. You can even use your wireless phone while in tunnels and in the underground stations because wireless transceivers have been installed. Also, you can get from Washington Reagan National Airport to anywhere in the city without a cab.

Singapore.
Public transport; taxis, buses and subway, is very cheap despite the relatively high standard of living in Singapore.
The road network is also efficiently organised such that you can go almost anywhere conveniently and quickly.

Washington, D.C. is tops on my list, followed by Chicago.
In Europe, most cities are just plain fantastic...and too bad more American cities don't take cues from their Euro-counterparts.

London (when it works), for the coverage and size of the place.
just the hours of operation let it down a bit.
