hi. im a christian and i go to church and read the bible. there are people who go the church 24/7 and read the bible 24/7, but im not like that. God wants us to live our daily life here on Earth and try as hard as we can to keep our Faith and not sin.
Sin is when you do something bad.
but then again we are all sinners and we make mistakes here on earth. but God is so good to us that he will forgive us. that is if we want to be forgiven and that is if we dont sin the same sin again.
i think its great that you want to go to church and read the bible. what religion are you? there are very many different types. i dont know them all. im penticostal. i believe that there is one God in Heaven and that Jesus ( the son of god ) died to set us free. if Jesus would not have died for us we all would of gone to Hell.
but enough of that talk. i just want to tell you that becoming a christian is a good thing. it does make you a better person. it helps you understand why we are all here on earth and what is our purpose in life. also, people go to church becus church is where people can get away from daily life and go and sing and pray and be among others like them.
im happy for you that you are taking this step. its a very hard step to take. once you have taken it you will feel pressured to stop. but just think of your future. it will be so much brighter and happier if you stay a christian. you will have support from the pastor and your friends from church. have lots of fun and get involved in church activities. take care. god bless.

It's up to you. Some people find it helpful, some can't live without it. Some people find it lifts them up, others find it drags them down. It depends who you are. Unfortunately, going to the church and reading the Bible don't have much to do with each other. You will be hard pressed to find a Christian sect that actually follows the Bible. Make your own decision.

I am probably erroneously assuming that a 20 year old would be in college... but take a Comparative Religions course, or a course on Sacred Texts. College isn't just about preparing you for the working world, it's about becoming an adult, and these decisions are all part of that.

It's not religion, it's faith. Yes you do become a better person, and you can make good friend and it's not a con! The Bible is the living and active Word of God. You learn alot from the Bible and Church can be fun! It doesn't really matter the denomination of the church but I think that Baptist, Nazarene or an Assembly of God church are the ones that really preach from the Bible. Try it :-)

That's a hard question to answer. Going to church and reading the Bible doesn't necessarily make you a better person. I know plenty of people that do both and are not good people. I think it depends on what you take away from the church and the Bible.

Christianity is fine in theory, but the rules are such that you are destined to try and eventually fail ... because perfection is not a human condition. As we are all individuals, our thoughts draw upon our own personal background, upbringing and present state of mind, therefore no two people have exactly the same internal concept of a God figure, or son of God figure, or holy spirit, etc. etc. Ultimately we are alone in this world, and eventually answer to ourselves on whether we have behaved well, poorly, or like most of us somewhere in between. Be brave, look into the mirror and ask yourself whether you are a good person to know or whether you are the kind of person you personally would like to avoid. Religious clubs are for worried sheep hoping to gain some kind of holy protection from the social garbage tip that we all inhabit. Our purpose here on earth is the advancement of the human species - can you imagine how much further we could have progressed if we had not been held back by religious dogma?

everyone's spiritual journey is a personal experience. sometimes going to church or reading the Bible brings great rewards sometimes it has little or no meaning. only you can become enlightened and this happens first by opening your heart. I occasionally read the Bible and very rarely go to church but pray and meditate and consider myself a committed Christian. Only you can make yourself a better person. only you can find your way. I have not always found nice people at church there but some of them are gems, just like anywhere else and God shows up in many disguises. People have their own reasons for going to church and it's not always spiritual. Everything you encounter people, challenges, experiences is God taking your soul on its journey so give things a go and see what it means to you.

You don't need to go to church to read the bible, mate.
This is something you need to find out for yourself, you can go to a church service and join in or just read the Bible and see how you feel. Religion isn't an intellectual experience, you either have faith or you don't. Keep an open mind, read much and don't allow anyone to try to sell you on something that you feel uncomfortable with. You'll find your God your way, in your time. I wish you well.

Hey dude - it depends on what you need. Some people HAVE TO believe in God or they become bad and feel like they have no consequence for their actions. Others can live happily and peaceful without a church. If you feel like the church might make you a better person then by all means, check it out.

There are a lot of Christians on Yahoo Answers who will tell you "good job" and "seek Jesus", so your answers may be from the brainwashed. I guess I'd suggest going to church, BUT be careful about believing everything the pastor says. Look at the information from a critic's point of view. Does it make sense in your mind? Don't believe it, but just think about it. I cannot lie, it is a good way to see things from another perspective and wonder why people behave the way they do. It's a good sociology experience. But I cannot emphasize it enough, don't so easily believe it.

I am not religious. I Can only say do what your heart feels (corny, i kno).
If you want to go to church and read the bible just do it! That way you will find out if its what you need. It may not be, but you'll never kno if u dont go.
Do what feels right for you. Do not think about what other people say - They will NEVER walk a day in your shoes and therefore have no right to tell you what path to take.
They can Agree or Disagree - But must respect your decision.

Peace n Infinite Luv
