to think that once this life is over it's over, to have no purpose to just die and not exists anymore?

They are disheartened...just as those who believe in an angry, vengeful god are disheartened. They (believers or not) may not realize it, and would probably protest loudly, but deep down, there is a sense of despair.

Those who believe in oblivion after death, will not be able to say "I told you so." ; those who believe there is life "after death" will hopefully have the spiritual discipline to not say it.

Well, considering that there is no PROOF that there is an afterlife, and that the fairy tale of the afterlife is used to manipulate people, it is only natural to think that there is nothing after life.

However, not having another life doesn't make this life (the only one) pointless or without a purpose! I'm alive to enjoy, to take the best of my few decades on earth, and to help the world be a little better after I'm gone. My purpose in life is for myself while I'm around, and both for me and for the rest of humanity, once I'm gone. And again, THAT makes more sense (and besides is held by proof) than living a certain life on earth with a lot of sacrifice and privations, for the sake a possible (not certain) afterlife that nobody knows anything about.

Live your life. That's the only one you know you'll get.

I believe it, because that's the way it is. Though I'm not depressed or miserable, in fact the opposite. I find because I accept that I'm not just hanging around to go to heaven I savor every thing that comes my way. I think a lot of people sort of shut out the most obvious explanation (that we live and die and that's it) because its the most frightening and un-nerving. If I die and God pops up and says that actually there is a heaven then great; but if not I want to have lived life to the full.

Have no purpose? So I guess this life means absolutely nothing to you, that you only look for tomorrow and not realize what you have today. Simply amazes me that people throw this life out the window cause of a belief in an after-life. You Are Missing Out.

Why is that hard to believe???? All life has but one purpose, to procreate before dying ensuring that life continues.

One study of dna concluded ( caution you may freak out) that ALL life, is nothing more than a vessel for a certain code of DNA to continue on.

Though humans may be the most advanced life form, our purpose is the same of an amoeba.

I dont understand why people fear death, everything does it.

Some folks only believe what they can see. They only trust what they think is the "scientific" equivalent to the facts. That said even us that claim Jesus, and the holy word of God as our reality have moments or periods of our life that we just aren't sure. Then we can rely on our faith. There is also historical records supporting our faith. I believe that knowing this is not all there is makes this struggle we call life worthwhile.

Because it is a very logical thing to believe. Is there any proof that life is NOT over when it's over?
