Hey all. I have a hi8 camcorder and am wanting to transfer as is to a vhs tape. IT says to just hook it up to my vcr with rca cables included and set vcr to line in to be able to recor d from the camcorder instead of the cable. But, I do not know how to set my vcr to line in as I do not have the manual. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

IT is correct but i think they forgot to add some more details. I am a Software Engineer but used to do a lot of video recording from my camcorder and infact my uncle is a videographer in movies and tv programs with his own studio.

So basically to set your video to line-in, it actually means changing the channel on your VCR to Video1 or Video2 depending on which video port you are using.

Also remember, the RCA cable is different, the camcorders don't have RCA cables, instead they have minijack to 3phono which you use to connect to television. So, Instead of connecting to television, just connect the same cable to the VCR. As I mentioned Video1 or Video2 channel setting, is because, most of the VCRs have two video inputs, one is at the back of the VCR and sometimes one is in front.

I hope this helps.

Most VCRs have dedicated Ins and Outs. Usually in back are both sets and in front are the Ins.

The set near the outer edge of the casing is using the IN connectors. The set further away and next to this is usually the OUT connectors

They usually say IN and OUT right on them.

Video is yellow, audio is white/red

You have to set your VCR from TV Tuner or Cable to AV or Line, using a switch on the front or your remote.

Expect the quality to drop. VHS is 240 lines while Hi 8 is 400+ lines. You'll also pick up some extra contrast, color smear and shimmy.
